My mom loaned out my Vista CD to a neighbor WITHOUT MY PERMISSION.

I get it back with the case broken and the CD missing.

I am extremely mad!! :mad :crybaby :banghead

Good Amiee you don't need any more headaches or troubles then you already have. Just wait until he gets home and politely ask for your cd back.

I find it interesting that no one has pointed out that loaning someone an OS disk is piracy, and illegal. Unless, you know, he just wanted to look at the pretty holograph under some coloured lights or something. If he didn't actually use it to install Vista on his machine it's fine for him to borrow it.

I think loaning the CD is ok, as long as they dont use your key and use there own key. For example: If they have a legit key but there CD is scradched, broken, lost etc. Though this is well outside my realm of expertise. :-D

...Except that they did use my key. My mom says he doesn't have his own. :mad THEN BUY YOUR OWN, CHEAPSKATE!!!

I'd imagine there's a way to report your key stolen or something to that effect.

If I had of known, I would have just loaned out my Ubuntu CD instead.

They are stuck with no updates at least. :boxing :boxing Tell them MS is tracking IPs with non conforming installs. And that you have received a mail regarding your Os and key being misused. Might give them the :crap's

Mine is a retail version. My mom gave him the entire case. When I got it back, the case was in pieces (I did manage to reassemble it) and the CD was missing (actually, about five minutes ago he just came up and gave it back, it was in his computer).

She has pulled stuff like this on me before. She knows I would have said "no" so she just took it without asking.

Problem now is is has installed it with your key and while the activation server may miss a multiple install right away, unless he is still running on the 30day grace period, it will catch up and may un-active one account and likely one will be the 1st PCs install.

I just went and told off my mom and apparently she says he put it in the CD drive but never used it. Weird....

Could be a multi-licence pack, there are varables to MS licensing (minefield actually) but general retail one is 1 license per device, but anythings possible with the activation servers, hence I mentioned "may" a few times.

Quote from retail Vista licence http://www.microsoft.com/about/legal/useterms/default.aspx (choose your software and the PDF of the EULA shows)

Two processors doesnt mean two PCs but multi cpu bases mobos (server boards), but posted my bit as you never know, I'd hate for Aimee to have the CP that deactivates and the neighbour has the working activated PC at some point in the future.

But if he never used it, then fine, but now wonder why he wanted it and mentioned he used the key!?
