I to am haing that problem with winfixer popping up again, I thought I had gotten rid of it and now its back, I am doing the read me first and will be posting all my logs as soon as the bitdefender and panda scans are done. I have noticed this time that my norton virus protection has disappeared from my systray, why is that? I tried to open norton from the start menu but for some reason I cant get it to appear at the bottom on the tray, is it the virus that is playing tricks on me? I noticed to that an add and remove wondow pops up every so often to. Well will get back as soon as all my scans are done.

p.s. I have posted before regarding this problem,
should I have added to my previous thread or made
a new one? sorry still kind of new at this.

You appear to be coming here with problems very frequently. Are you not reading and performing all the steps in: How to Protect yourself from malware!

It must be that or perhaps you are still clicking on things that you should not be clicking on. Or you are going to sites that you should not be going to. The How to protect discusses things besides installing software. Protection really starts with you being properly educated and following some guidelines. Nothing that you can install will protect you from yourself.

Which PC is it? Which thread was it that you last work on WinFixer problems? Post a link to the thread.

This is with my Dell computer that I have in my room, it has windows xp, and I thought that the last time I posted and when through all the steps in removing spyware and viruses it took car of the problem, I dont know why I am having problems again. I did do the bitdefender scan, I am in safe mode with networking enabled, and it found nothing, now I am doing the panda scan and will post a log to that, and then the hijack this. will let you know.

    thanks

and sorry I am having problems again, I did read the
how to protect yourself, and I thought I was protected
but obviosly not as good as I anticipated. Would you
happen to know why I cant put my norton anti-virus
in my bottom tray, if it isnt in the try am I still protected
    with my norton?

Please give me a link to which thread you last worked problems on this particular PC.

SpywareBlaster will help but like all tools it is not perfect.

Did you install and update Spybot? Did you run the Immunize feature? You must also do this after each updated? Did you use Spybot SDhelper function?

Locate all your threads and tell me which one. All you need to do is go to the thread and then copy the URL from your address bar. Then paste it here in a message.

You should be reading all links in the READ & RUN ME. In multiple places it mentions Special Removal Procedures and in this link you will find (among others) the below link which even tells you it is for WinFixer (even see it referenced by name towards the end of step 6):

Virtumonde aka Trojan Vundo Removal - some people also refer to this as WinFixer

Run this and attach the requested log. Also indicate how things are working afterwards. Then attach a new HJT log too.

NOTE: YOU NEVER COMPLETED THE HOW TO PROTECT THREAD STEPS. I do not see a firewall! See step 3 one of the most important steps. (Unless you Symantec software includes a firewall but I cannot tell and I don't and would not use it so I don't know.) And you did not update your Sun Java version. Skipping steps will not help you protect your PC!!!

Only one firewall must be used (see step 3 of the How to protect thread) and Windows firewall should not be used since it is not adequate. Which process is Norton's firewall? Or is it just imbedded within their monsterous security center (or whatever they call it)?

sorry a quick qestion, should I disable my personal firewall with norton and download zonealarm, or a similar product? You didnt seem very pleased about norton and windows isnt that good, so your opinion counts.

    thank you

If you did not get a log then you did something wrong. Look for it.

Read the How to protect thread again! In particular pay close attention to step 8.

You HJT log is clean now. Are you still having any problems?

If you like Norton & keep it up to date (paid subscription), keep it! We personally don't like it.

the firewall that I have is embedded in my norton and it says persol firewall, i open that and I turned on the automatic program control and I turned on the Network protector, hopefully this will give me adequate protection, this norton came already installed in my computer from dell, I have a free 2 year subscription and after that I need to update, which when that time comes I think I will go with zonealarm. So far so good I havent had any popups, and if I find the vundo log, I will post it, thank you for all your help, it's nice to come here and get advice, you guys are great. Keep up the good work. ;)
