Hi I am new around here. I have a computer and for some reason Alot of web sites and message boards have banned me. It says: "IP blocked. You Have been banned." Or something to that. A friend of mine thinks when I got my comcast cable internet I got some old IP address that was corrupted.

So my true question is; How would I change my IP address to get a new one?
I would like a program to do it so I do not need to reboot my computer.

    Thanks A million !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only way to get it to change yourself is by getting a new MAC, and the only way to get a new MAC is by getting a new physical NIC. So basicly, you're accountable for your actiosn online, if you don't want to be banned from places then follow the rules those places had in the first place.

The NIC has nothing to do with your IP address. The MAC address is burned into the card by the manufacturer, the IP can be what ever you want as long as it follows the IP standards. Cat5e is correct, your provider will hand you your IP address and if you want it changed, you will need to speak to them.

I admit I didn't clearly explain everything, but you are incorrect, the MAC is very important in this matter.

The reason I said he needs to change his MAC to get a new IP is because of how the tcp/ip protocol works. I don't want to go into too much detail about it but simply put, when you connect your computer to the internet your computer sends a request to your ISP asking for an IP. This request contains among other things your MAC address. The ISP then takes this MAC address and assigns the MAC address an IP address and this is stuck in a table. This tags the MAC to that IP untill the ISP either clears the table, or edits it manual (and most ISP will not edit it manually). There is also a given time where if that MAC is not seen on the net for a certain amount of time it is reassigned to a new MAC address. Although the actual period of time could be anywheres from 2 hours to a year, it's whatever the ISP sets it to.

Since this is the way the protocol works, if you change your NIC, your computer would apear to be a diffrent computer and then it would be assigned a new IP address accordingly.

I did not break there rules because I have never been there. There some sites my friends told me about. And I really wanted to see them. I don`t know why I am blocked.

Thanks for the detailed info guys! You have been a huge help!
