I feel like I am at some sort of secret society meeting, and I just hope someone out there can help. My PC has died, I think there is some power coming from the power supply as the green light is still on but I think the internal power supply is gone or maybe my mobo(I just learnt this word today!!!) . The tower does not make any noise when on, and the monitor makes only a 1 Beep sound otherwise it stays dead.

I need to revive this computer, as i have not backed any files, and i have video and photographs stored there which are long gone from the memory cards, i don't care about anything else.

I need help on how to diagnose the problem by myself, as I work full time and no one can do call out in the time I require.

After diagnosis, how much should I expect it to cost to fix, power supply/mobo etc.

any suggestions are welcome, I am looking forward to your answers(to see what the secret society has to offer)

Thanks Guys, any help will be appreciated :grouphug

This guy outlines what some of the beeps mean.http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1223

He says one beep shouldn't mean anything is wrong. Do you remember what you were doing when the computer crashed, or have you had any noticeable power fluxes recently? I would check to make sure that nothing inside has become unplugged, or drastically over heated.

what happened when it died (ie - lightning, storm, power outages)? do you have your comp/monitor hooked up to a surge protector? are you sure your monitor is good? does your keyboard light up when the comp is on? do the fans come on? i'd open up the tower and check all connections (as mentioned). we need more info to go on. - sos

fyi, you should be able to take your h/d out (if it's good), and retreive the data from it, by installing it into another comp (or external h/d enclosure). what is the o/s (operating system) of your comp? what brand pc?
