I know a lot of people around the world are in trouble with the banking crisis but for me it just got personal.http://www.clipartof.com/images/emoticons/xsmall2/1900_storming_mad.gif
I have lived in Belgium for 20 years and when i first came here i set up a pension savings scheme that would give me a lump sum of $55000 at the age of 65 and today i received a letter to say all share dealings have been suspended in Fortis pensions and that we will get 10 cents on the dollar.

What i am really angry at is that the fat cats in all these banks are walking away with golden handshakes that run to millions and it's the guy in the street who gets http://www.clipartof.com/images/emoticons/xsmall2/774_smiley_getting_kicked_in_the_balls.gif and not only that the government ministers here sold all their holdings the day before the crash, they say there will be an inquiry but you might as well http://www.clipartof.com/images/emoticons/xsmall2/1247_farting.gif in the wind for all the good that will do.

Sorry to here that Bill. :(

Getting news like that is really a blow. Is the 10c a definite? If you wait it out, could you get more?

Not sure at the moment Laura.
I just got back from the bank and we should get an answer early next week.

I am of course angry but it could be worse, my next door neighbour has got a lot of his collateral (don't know how much) invested in the same bank as me and he looked very sick when the post arrived today.

    Jesus, that's awful. 10c to the $.

This crisis is really ruining homes in India as well.

Businesses, mine included, which require financier's to be bullish are screwed. No positive projections either. Blue chip companies have lost more than 50% equity ATLEAST!!

I've probably posted 25K$ in losses in two months..

Things are so depressing, that I've decided to go for a short christmas holiday.
Can't do anything to resolve the liquidity crunch, or the markets sentiments!!

I hope against hopes, that the banks reverse your current, investment prediciment. Pathetic ..

Oh man... Bill so very sorry to hear this. :(

Does that mean that the plan you have is/was not insured?

Hope you get a bit more positive things to hear next week.

Wow Bill... that sucks so badly that any word I can think of to describe it would get my posted edited and me suspended from here.

What a horrible Christmas gift. I really hope it's not as bad as it first seems.

Thanks for all the sympathy ( i feel really sorry for myself at the moment) :cry
It is not a huge amount of money as i have another pension plan that is unaffected but that was intended that when we are 65 (in 4 years)to have a nice cruise or another auto, so in effect it was an extra.
As an aside it looks as though we are going to lose our prime minister over the way the bank problem was dealt with, that does not make me feel any better:major

Your not alone, my 401K has taken a beating. The good news is, we are getting a substantial increase in SS.
