    Hey guys/gals!!

My computer is an older Gateway (Windows ME, @ 1 ghz), and like 640K ram. I currently have 2 hard drives in it.

Here is a little history: I have probably broken it (BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH), about 5-10 times since I've had it. I had bought a Airlink Plus TV Tuner card (about 2 months ago), installed it (played around with it for about a week, and returned it because I/we (their tech support) couldn't get it to be stable (work all the time), so I returned it. Well when I took out the card, I must have messed up the driver stuff, cause I got a BLUE SCREEN, and it took me about a week, to get all of the driver stuff straightened out. Then I got a wild hair up my ass and decided to to buy a different brand TV Tuner. I wound up returning it because we couldn't get it to be stable (work all of the time).

About 1-2 weeks later, I installed an internal DVD burner, and when I installed the drivers and all, things seemed fine, till I clicked on something (disk in DVD burner), and I got the BLUE SCREEN. Ever since then, I get the error on startup (BLUE SCREEN), and it won't boot up. If I remove the ribbon cable on all CD (or DVD) drives then it boots up normally. I have removed the drives in Device Manager hoping that it would recognize the drives, and try to re-install software, but that hasn't worked. I also, (when the problem started), have no "Restore Points" to go back to. - Steve

Oh, one more thing, I have/had the settings on "CS", as that's the way they were before (it had 2 drives from Gateway). I have tried (afterwards), the Master/Slave thing on the CD drive(s), and it doesn't work either.

Hey Sosaman! Did you ever figure out what was causing this error to occur? The reason I ask is, a friend is having the exact same, identical, error message. Hers is related to a new CD-RW installation. It pops up when she tries to use it. So any help you can give would be wonderful. Thanks!

Have you tried a repair install of windows...could be a corrupt registry...and i'm assuming you haven't got a backup of the registry from before these problems occured!!!???

A reinstall isn't an option, well it's a last option for her anyway. I'll have her run Regcleaner. I've got that on there for her. Thanks!

Incase you're not 100% fully knowledgeable of a "repair install"....the only thing it does is remove the windows stuff ONLY, and reinstalls windows right back over where it removed it from!! It doesn't do anything else with any of the other files/stuff on the disc!! It doesn't format the drive...and the option exist specifically for repairing windows without hurting the other stuff!! Just like if you replaced a window in your house...pull the old one out...put the new one in exactly where you pulled the old one out...nothing else in the house gets harmed!!

The only downside to it...if you have an old copy of windows (I'm kind of assuming you have XP) it might take a while to retrieve and get back up to date with the windows updates!!

Well I forgot about that. But her computer is a Gateway with ME on it, and just has the restore CDs. Can you do a reair install of ME from a Gateway restore CD? As an aside, it should be against the law to sell a computer without the full version of the operating system on CD!
