After following all the steps required for removing a maleware virus called "antimaleware doctor" I was at the step where SUPERantispyware was removing harmful items and then KABOOM my computer shut down right in the middle. It started to reboot itself and that damn antimaleware doctor came up and started doing all kinds of things so I immediately shut the computer off and now it won't reboot in safe mode or any mode for that matter. I can get to the F8 screen but after selecting safe mode it gets stuck on the screen that shows "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\system32\ and so on.
This screen used to be full of these lines now it only takes up half the screen.
    HELP.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You started out by saying "after following all the steps". In reality, you had just begun to remove malware. This is only the first of 5 scanners.

Bad idea as you can see now. You likely corrupted your registry by doing this. Did you try Last Known Good Configuration? If that does not work, you will have to follow the below procedure assuming that you have Windows XP since you did not tell us:

Yes, I am using windows XP (SP3). I have now completed 'all steps' in part one of the recovery console and proceeding to part two. While the computer is rebooting I tap F8 and select saf mode option. Windows screen comes up then the "applying computer settings" displays. Then a system error comes up "lsass.exe - system error" "An invalid parameter was passed to a service or function". I click "OK" then it goes back to rebooting again same error message appears again. What should I do next? Also, do I leave windows XP disk in cd-rom drive for part 2 or take it out?

I also need to mention in part one of the recovery console portion, after I pressed 'r' it then asked me what installation I wanted to log on to. I pressed 1, hit enter then cursor came up. I wasn't sure what number to press because it wasn't in the directions. Did this cause the error? I was able to type all lines of text without incident after that.

Is this a Desktop PC? If yes, do you have another PC where you could put this hard disk in as a slave drive to complete the part of Step 2 that requires copying registry hives from a recent restore point.

Another option would be to use another PC to create a CD you can boot from that has a Windows like environment and use a Windows Explorer like program to do the copying. CDs like below can do this:

UBCD4Win - great CD but requires your original Windows CD and some additional work.

OTLPE - another excellent CD. You can see some instructions for creating this one in message # 17 of the below link. You are not really concerned about step 4 there since you just need to make the bootable CD to have the Windows like environment to copy files around.

I attempted to make cd of UBCD4WIN on my laptop which seemed to work but my desktop(in question) would not boot it. So, I started over, dug out an old gateway recovery disk with a good key(XP Home SP1) and installed it over my old XP and now I am up and running(I just built this computer 6 mo. ago and didn't really have much to lose). So now can you help me with three questions? First, is superantimaleware good for me to use in conjuction with AVG? And second, my XP Home SP1 is seven years old. Do you have on your website a sp3 or higher(if there is one) I can use or do I need to purchase it? Should I buy Windows 7? If these three things seem less important then any suggestions you have I am all ears.

You have been a great help and I am astonished at how many posts you get a day. You are a better person then I, that's for certain.

You should check it again now that you have reinstalled. Also check if it will boot on another different PC. I'm only recommending this for possible future use and because it is a great tool to have around. You need to make sure you made the disk properly as a bootable CD.

Yes but remember the free version of SUPERAntiSpyware is only an after the fact scanner. It has no active protection unless purchased.

Since you already found it, no answer needed. ;)

I don't know what your system specs are since you never were able to attach any logs before. However if your PC is 7 yrs old, I would doubt the hardware specs would be up to what I would recommend for use with Windows 7 so the answer would likely be no if you were going to install on this PC.
