I Can't Access My Disc Drive When Booting Any Dos On A CDR

I'm trying to update the firmware on one of my HDD's using an application from Western Digital through a bootable dos disc. I've tried Ultimate Boot CD, Free Dos, Open Dos, and a couple of others. All of them load but don't allow me to access my disc drive. There's no option to choose my drive letter, in order to load up the Western Digital application which I pre-imported into the dos discs. I CANNOT choose any path on my disc drive because it simply doesn't exist when loading dos. But how is that possible when the drive boots up the disc? I need to know how or what dos to use that will have the correct drivers for me to have disc drive access. I also need to know how to import my WD app into that prior to doing so.

If not please any instructions on how to boot dos with my app on a USB stick would be good too.

Can you provide a link to the Western Digital program and site your referring to? It might help if we can see first-hand exactly what WD is offering.... just out of curiosity, why are you trying to upgrade the HD firmware?

BTW- I'd recommend using a std MSDOS boot disk. Put a blank floppy in the floppy drive, go to "My Computer", right click your floppy drive (drive A: for most people), select "Format", select "Create MS-DOS boot disk", and let 'er rip. Then copy your WD files to the MSDOS disk (if there's room on the disk). Boot to it, and run your program.....
