    Hello ev-1;

    I had another systems crash which makes the 4th time in a two (2) month period, instead of doing a total Quick Restore, I used my Recovery CD, which worked this time, I was amazed, because I could never use it in the pass, always had to do a total QR. Before I used the CD these were some of the messages I got:

    Stimon has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL

    Explorer has caused an error in WS2Help.DLL. On this message it kept coming up, couldnt get rid of it.

    HQ error loading the TCP Mib Library. On this one there was a red X.

    Error while unpacking program, code LP5. Please report to author. On this one also red X.

    Spool32 has caused an error in _________, I didnt finish writing this error message because at that point, it was useless because there were 3 or 4 more messages that followed. I had never seen any of these before, after all the messages, I even got this after all else had failed;

    "UNABLE to detect a Operating System on this computer, this was on a Black screen.

    Since the recovery, now I can't do any installing. I tried downloading and installing Windows Word 2000, which takes all of 2-5 minutes, it kept locking up doing the install.

    I tried installing the software for my HP All-In-One, which is a very large download and install, but it kept locking up doing the process and my CD Rom drive kept opening up where I could not close it after pressing the button to close it, had to do it manually. Well the Recover took care of all those Error messages.

    Since these latest things have happened, my CD Rom will not work, it won't take any CD's. The drawer opens and closes by itself, to the point if I've put a CD in it, when the drawer opens, the CD is still spinning to the point, it looks like the CD is going to spin right out of the tray. Most of the time the drawer wont close until I do a hard shut down and turn the PC back on. I've also noticed that when the drawer opens, usually my PC locks up. My PC has run a muck.

    Can someone tell me why I'm ("not able to download and install").

    Thanks 4 your help !!!

    You used a manufactures recovery CD, so you reformatted and reinstalled the operating system? Windows XP Home? You were not connected to the Internet while you did this, correct? You had at least a firewall running when you did connect to the Internet, and hopefully an anti virus as well. HP sometimes asks you to turn off your anti virus when installing their software, and not to plug in and turn on your printer/scanner until instructed to do so. There is usually some quirk in the install with an all-in-one, at least in my experience, usually have to copy Product folders contents on the CD to the product folder in HP's Program Files folder on the hard drive.

    Hello Bug,

    I didnt know that the recovery CD was my OS, had no clue. I was just trying to get things to work properly and didnt want to have to do a whole Quick Restore, but thank you for that information because about the recovery CD.

    I'm running WinME, not XP and it's a Compaq not HP. Bug, I had NO idea that I was suppose to be disconnected from the Internet when I use the CD's (Quick Restore or Recovery). Whenever I've run a QR, I was never told to turn off my DSL box, have never heard that before, even before my warranty ran out with Compaq's Tech Support, they never told me anything like that, and my AntiVirus or Sypware programs were not disconnected either. I'm not behind a Firewall.

    As far as my All-In-One, whenever I've had to re-install the software, I never disconnected the USB Cable to re-install, I just pop the CD in and run the software.

    So, what do you think my problem is at this point. What about all the Error messages I recieved and how can I fix the problem with my CD Rom opening and closing and all the lock ups, because at this point, it appears that the CD Rom drawer is causing all the lock ups.
