i cant remove old antivirus prgm.

i had kaspersky antivirus (defender pro) on my computer then i changed to avast because defender pro took 3 says to do a scan. the avast is not compatible with kaspersky, so it shuts off most of its features. I have tried every way i know to remove the kaspersky but i keep running into a couple of files which say access denied so they wont uninstall or be deleted. the avast message box says there are p2p resident and some other part of kaspersky running, i dont know how it could be the only parts of the program i wasnt able to get rid of was called defender pro labs. My computer is a Gateway with a intel celeron processor at 697 mhz with 256 ram.i have two hard drives a maxtor 20 gb. and a western digital 20 gb. I am running xp pro sp2 if you can think of how to fix my problem please email me right away cuz till i get the one off the other wont work thank you

 

boy it strikes a familiar cord especially about the so called super kaspersky AV moving at a snail pace.
I suggest you boot to safe mode and try to uninstall and if that does not work try using WinCleaner 200X.(Borrow or buy) And if that does not work then wait for a geek to reply.

 

This problem is typical for Kaspersky. I had the same problem, and I had to reinstall Windows. Later I got known about Windows Install Clean Up utility (http://download.microsoft.com/downl...1BD/msicuu2.exe).
