I changed my cell phone plan

I changed my cell phone plan yesterday.

Due to a sudden change in circumstances we found ourselves needing a lot more minutes per month than what our plan allowed for, and suddenly the bill spiked. Not by a little either. Looking at the amount on the bill, realizing that we cannot afford this to happen again, I typed in our zip code on the cell provider's website to find the nearest store, and marched in, armed with anger and bitchiness, and determined that they would not rip me off or force me into another 2-year contract just to avoid another cell phone bill the size of my house payment.

Ten minutes later I walked out with a receipt in hand, and doubled minutes on my existing plan. No additional commitment was needed, and there were no fees at all.

In all, that short store visit is probably the most painless and hassle-free experience I have ever had with a phone provider, wireless or land line, and since I am very quick to complain when I feel companies treat me bad, it seems only fair that I should spread the word when they are helpful. So kudos to Verizon, and to Greg in the store, for being very helpful and making it easy for me to get my phone bill down to an affordable amount again. :)

I have always liked Verizon and have had nothing but good service from them for cell, landline, internet, and tv. (Jeez, they kinda own me, don't they. :-D)

Glad to hear it worked out. Did you have to pay more for the extra minutes or you got them for the same price? Are they willing to work deals with people? hmmm...mine and my husband's contract is up in April.

We pay more for the "new plan". They changed our monthly minute quota, and it will be a slightly higher fee per billing cycle since they give us more minutes. It's also back-dated to the beginning of the current billing cycle, so our next bill will show the new monthly fee (including the discount I get from Verizon making a deal with my employer LOL), instead of a horrendous overage charge. If I remember right, and I'm too lazy to look up the numbers, the difference in cost would cover roughly two medium Starbucks coffee drinks.

At long last! Somebody that ain't trying to rip us off. I assume Verizon is the name of your network provider (could've googled that to find out, but can't be bothered, way past my bedtime:zzz.) Hah! Did it anyway, just to surprise you! Don't know what the exchange of $:£ is, but I think we get better offers on package deals over here from Sky or Virgin. Tried to enter the site, but it wanted my ZIP code(?) and location. Don't think north Northumberland is covered by them.

The entire rest of the world gets better deals than the US on cell phones and internet plans...:banghead

Verizon has their hands in everything. Cell, internet, tv, etc...

lol..from the complaints I've heard, I think at least Canada is worse than us.

    Hey!...it's someone!

Thank you for posting something positive about Verizon! It gives me hope that maybe, in other places, they aren't the perfectly horrendous company I've come to know and loathe. :-D

At times we do on some packages, noticing that many of your carriers dont add the data (internet) as standard in a package I would agree that some carriers in the UK and O2 mine for the iPhone is not a bad deal as the data/internet is part of the package and as I dont use the phone for voice too much so the 75mins call voice time and 125 texts a month plus unlimited data/internet for £29 (roughly $41 a month) is not too bad compaired to some USA carriers taffifs.

Bell Cda is the pits. Had many years ago the Internet from them. They called me to offer the next upgrade. I went for it, but didn't get the promised speed. After dozens of phone calls, they finally came out with the truth .... out of area :mad If I'd listened to them I would've spent hundreds of $$ because they kept on saying the problem was at my end. rolleyes Mad as hell I canceled immediately and told them I don't want to receive any of their deceptive marketing calls anymore. About a year later, the calls came again and I gave these poor sales people hell!! They told me that I would get the speed I was promised due to their upgrading. Of course I told them that I don't trust Bell anymore and to quit calling forever.

I switched to Rogers/Yahoo cable Internet after that debacle and am happy with them. Their service is prompt and fantastic! So far no extra charges... ever.

I use my cell phone only in case of emergency and arranged with Bell for a monthly payment of $11.50 Cdn.

No, I don't want to be bothered with getting calls wherever I go. Therefore only my daughter has my cell phone #.

The missus and I both have a mobile each, lucky if we use them a dozen times between us a week. Then the daughters turn up and it sounds like an amusement arcade in here. And the music blares from these things like a Saturday night disco. Only louder. Maybe I'm an old codger but I like the peace and quiet!!!!!!

Oh Halo, feel for you. We're already too busy in our lives, never mind getting calls where ever we don't want to have them. Being tied to a phone feels to me like being a doggie on a leash. Who's the boss? :-D A message on the answering machine at home will do just fine... thank you. Of course no text messaging either.

@joey: Yeah, I want peace and quiet too. :wave

Proper excuse, research has found out that using cell phones close to your ear can/may cause cancer.

I know on busy lives and, if I'm honest and dont tell anyone, I normally have my phone on silent (work in hospital is my excuse) and worst trait of mine is if you are not in my phones address book so your name (and ugly mug in some cases) pops up with your call, then I no answer as I hate it when others give your number out without permission.

:p, we ain't that bad!;) I can't comment on cell phone costs as I don't own one. I have cable TV and ISP and I'm considering switching the phone too to the same provider. Bell is ripping me off for a landline that I hardly ever use.

I think from reading these posts that i am really lucky here.
I have digital TV,ISP,and land line all on the same account that costs 69Euros per month (about $73) and all calls made between 4PM and 9AM are free.
As for cellphones we have 2 and the system is supplied by my ISP but not on an account, you can load as much cash to the phone as you want (great for the kids) and when your call time is down to 5min you get a text.
This is a prepay system with a difference because you can load the phone directly from the handset just by putting a password in and stating how much you want.

That's why I love Tracfone, if I don't use it as much one month and more the next the minutes hang around until I need them. And I pay $20 every two months for it.

Can you use a mobile in hospitals now, Halo? Used to be a requirement (in UK, anyway) that phones are switched off as they interfere with equipment. Is this still the case? Thought I saw somebody using one in a hospital on TV not long ago.

The latest info or way majority of PCTs and Hospitals are going to allow phones in areas that are not critial care, so general wards if its not going to interfear with others then yes, but not in all hospitals as its upto the managers of that hospital.

    Baisic info is this http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Publication...tions/PublicationsPolicyAndGuidance/DH_092811

I've had a verizon cell phone since 1992. I've also had several carriers for works as well and verizon has always come through, the customer service is what keeps me with them, they are easy to work with as opposed to the others I've had to deal with.
When I had a bill overage (like mimsy is was dogon near a mortgage payment) they worked with me backdated the new plan and I saved nearly $400 off of that bill. (Yes 2 teens who love to text did me in.)
