what does the xxx ns/day mean? (in the GPU folding client)

Can you specify where you see this? Better yet, a screenie would be great. I'm running GPU right now and have never seen that.:confused

i was wondering because i hear people say things like "now i get 5k PPD because of that overclock!"

what does this mean in relation to PPD (points per day)

and as some additional info its usually around 462 for my 8800GT and 160 on my dad's 8600GT

Sorry, I've since gone to the console client but I have seen that, basically ignored it. Fred_G would probably know better. Your 8800GT is not producing properly for some reason, it should be near 5K PPD just on stock speeds, your dad's is way under too but I'm not too familiar with an 8600.:confused I have a 9800GT and it's averaging around 4.7K PPD.

how do you tell how many PPD your card is producing?

is the ns/day the same as the ppd/day?

Install FAHMon, rht-clk the left window and navigate to where your F@H is installed. This will give you a pretty good estimate of PPD and ETA.

EDIT: OK, I get you now. No, you are not getting 447 PPD but probably 10x more. Check out this site and you are getting 4.1KPPD though it could be better.

OK, I just checked out your stats and they look good though I would have thought your 8800 would beat me. If you're running 24/7 your stats do look a bit weird with the low points. Here's mine. Going 24/7

I stay away from the graphical clients. More better points using the console. The screen thingy was broken for a while for Nvidia cards. Use FAHmon linked above for stats.

Nvidia 8800 should be giving you around 5k PPD at stock.:-D

If you want points, get aftermarket cooling on that 8800. My 8800 is cranking out around 6100PPD. Overclock it lightly on GPU and RAM, then crank the shaders as high as you can go. Be carefull, and write down your settingns. Bad things happen with instability.

I use RivaTuner to max out my GPU fans and overclock the cards. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download737.html:p

thanks for all the help guys!

fred, could you post your current overclock for me as a reference?

and also, i am very soon going to buy an aftermarket cooler for my 8800 (this one to be exact) and i had a couple questions about it.

does it come with thermal paste already on it? if so, what thermal solution/paste should i buy to remove/replace it? and, does this aftermarket cooler also sufficiently cool the memory?

I would not overclock much untill you get the cooler. That is the exact one I have it works well on one of my 8800's and exceptionaly on the other! It has some thermal paste on it, not sure what kind. I would just buy some AS5 and clean the stock stuff off.

I might have been off on the points. I never ran mine stock! :-D I overclock with RivaTuner, and use GPU-Z for temps. Overclock setting and disclaimer are bellow.

Note, this card is overclocked past what I would overclock a card on a computer I do much with. This one folds, and occasionally I do some brief web surfing or windows updates. This one is unstable in 3DMark 06 and will artifact like crazy. The shader overclock I am doing is causing this I think. It is stable for folding. Overclock at your own risk, with proper cooling. Increase slowly and test.

    Core Clock 732
    Shader Clock 1855
    Memory Clock 987

GPU Temp 57C (I have a 120mm fan on my cooler) I have been playing around by slowly uping the CPU and Ram clocks, but I think this sucker is very close to it's max. Dang it! I am down to 6098PPD! Will have to play around with the settings later on!:cool

tommorow im ordering a new PSU along with some AC5, AC cleaner&purifier, and the vga cooler.

since my computer is my main gaming machine ill prolly start at around 700/1700/950 for overclocking
