I don't know how or why but...

Hey guys,
I got this forum from a friend and he said that this place is very helpful for computer issues.
So can you please help me fix my computer...it is just over a month into the semester and my computer refuses to cooperate. :cry
Basically, my computer froze at one point. So I manually shut it down and when it turned back on two main things that I noticed were different.
1) The task manager was disabled(i have since figured out how to enable it)
2) I can not turn off/restart/standby my computer. The option is not there in the start menu and it is grayed out in the task manager.
Since then my computer has been getting consistently slower and now it is barely moving. I have AVG and have scanned for viruses and so far nothing.
Any ideas as to how I can fix my computer?

Work through the procedure below step-by-step, and if you are still having issues after, post up the logs as indicated and a Authorized Malware Fighter will be along to help you shortly.

Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

• Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above and you still have a problem, make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below thread to properly use HijackThis and attach the log:

Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

• Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around..

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:

• CounterSpy Log - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
• AVG Antispyware Log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy. - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
• Bitdefender Log - from step 6
• Panda Scan Log - from step 6
• runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
• newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
• HijackThis Log

NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

 

Hey,
Thanks for the tips on making my computer run smoother. But I still can not turn off/restart/stand by my computer. I was able to run the disk clean up, defragmentation, and registry. Will removing Malware help me with this issue?
Also, there are viruses in some of my files that run with windows. I have AVG and it can not heal these file therefore I have to move them to my virus vault. Could this be a reason why my computer is not running properly? (since these files are out of place and therefore are not used)
