Thank you everyone who does such a great service here. I followed to the best of my ability but I am very computer illiterate so please bear with me. At some points I was a bit confused about what I was doing, I hope I ran these things correctly.

Here is my hijack this log. Please let me know what else you need or what I can do.

    Thanks again.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!
Sorry but that is not the log that was requested. We need the logs from the below scans that were in the cleaning process:
    • Rogue Killer
    • Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
    • TDSSKiller
    • Hitman Pro
    • MGtools - this is the MGlogs.zip file as stated in the procedure.

We also need to know what problems you are having?

    Hi, thanks so much!

Sorry... I was following the video it said to watch about attaching logs. I must have misunderstood.

The problem started a few days ago with some kind of adware because it started showing annoying underlined text that would open into boxes if my mouse pointer happened to go near them. And it started redirecting me to advertising sites.

I know I was working doing research that day, so I know I went to a few sites I was not familiar with, but I don't remember which. Nothing porn or anything like that, and I didn't do any downloads, I just had to do research for some writing projects.

The malware removal guide said to try the "fixing google redirection/hijacking and other redirection problems" first, and I did. After the initial "general house cleaning" thing, it looked okay for a day.

Then it started again even worse and I tried the adware removal again, steps 1 - 3 and it seemed okay again for a night.

Yesterday it started doing it again, worse, and I can't open my MS Word program or it freezes my computer so that I can't even restart it.

So today I did the entire "Fixing Google" guide, went on to the Malware removal guide and did that.

And I am attaching the logs now (or trying... this is honestly so foreign to me and it's soooo much to take in at one time my head is truly spinning so I'm sorry if I'm not doing something right).

the TDSS killer said it found something but the default action was "ignore" so like the guide said, I just clicked for it to continue on with that and it did not give me a log and it did not ask me to reboot.

Hitman pro didn't find anything so it didn't give me an option to save a log.

I am searching and searching and searching for thde MGlogs.zip file but I can't find it and it's making me sick. I will keep searching for it but I might just have to try and start the whole process over and hope I do it right because some parts I just do not understand.

    thanks sorry for the confusion.

Actually both of them created the logs right where the procedure said they would be. And can see the files exist from file in the MGlogs.zip file you attached. ;) And I would think that Hitman Pro would have found quite a bit of the issues based on what I see in your logs. However, let's just continue with the below instructions.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    DefaultTab
    FLV Runner B2 Toolbar
    Java(TM) 6 Update 25

    Viewpoint Media Player

Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment Make sure that when you see the form asking about installing Ask Toolbar that you uncheck this.

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.

    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Hi! Thank you so much for your response!

I am sure everything in the instructions here is totally accurate about where things would be-- it's my ability to understand them that falters. It took me 20 minutes of Googling just to find where the "tools button" was on Firefox. I could flunk out of computer kindergarten if I had to take a test.

I could not find FLV Runner B2 Toolbar... it would be there in uninstall programs, in alphabetical order, right?

I managed to do it all and I'm not getting any more redirecting. MS Word still freezes the computer & I can't do anything, CTL+ALT+DEL doesn't work, I can't open the start menu or escape or shut down properly.

My Toshiba Service Station updates is trying to download "Start Page Configurations". I didn't do it because I wasn't sure if I was supposed to or if it would mess anything up.

I am including the logs, thanks again for all your help. I hope I'm following well...

Normally yes! But it is gone now so it may have been removed by one of the other items being uninstalled.

    You're welcome.

    Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Oh, thank you thank you thank you! You're an angel for walking me through this, and this is the best site ever because usually i don't understand anything. I even managed to muddle through your instructions are so clear.

I can't thank you enough for all your help. It seems to be working really well now, all except my MS word, which is still freezing up, so I guess I should reinstall it?

You have a great night now!
