I fixed the Flash problem I was having, but...

... I need help with something else. During my adventures to figure out why Flash/Shockwave wasn't working, I did the registry edit (Method 2 on this site http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318378) that uninstalls IE. The uninstallation went according to plan, but the reinstallation of it didn't. I ran the iesetup.exe several times and the most frequent error was: "The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify it's compatibility with Windows XP. The software will not be installed. Contact your system administrator." I restarted several times and tried again, I even ran a Scan Disk and defragged, just to see if that would fix anything. It didn't.

I can still use IE, after I reinstalled the components with my XP Reinstallation disk, but everytime I start up my computer I get another message saying "Internet Explorer has been removed from this computer. Would you like to reset all of your personal settings?" Or something very close to that. It's very annoying.

Anywho, if any of you can give me any help, it'd be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    sFrequency

Your XP re-installation disk what version XP is it?

Did you before this happened or have you installed SP1 after the re-install of IE6?

    also reading that reg fix............

I noticed the bit in bold as basically a key to say IE is not installed so you can re-install the same version IE as before ( because if you dont do this XP will say you have the latest version and wont install the same version over its self )

I now wonder if you have to change those keys back to say yes IE is installed? eg. change the 0 to a 1

You're right. I changed the 0 back to a 1 and that fixed the problem. Thanks much, Halo.

Something completely off topic here, but... messenger@microsoft.com is annoying. :\

    But, thanks!

On the messenger @ microsoft anoyance..... elaborate a little as I not getting the gist of what you are not happy with....

    is it,

XP/MSN Messenger - The Instant Messenger prog to chat via

    or

Messenger Service - which can give you anoying advert popups on screen at any point ( but is used normally if you are on network to give admin alerts to users etc etc )

Well, I use Trillian Pro and for some reason... messenger@microsoft.com messages me everytime I sign on saying I need to make a security update to Messenger. I tried to block them, but... it doesn't work. :\

Ah this news is quite current, its to do with MS changing the way Messenger and its service is used as Trillian is a 3rd party piece of software that uses MS's Network.

I take it this is the email...

Well, I got the e-mails a while back... now when I sign on, I get instant messaged about it. I already got the update for Windows Messenger, but that didn't stop the IMs. :\
