It's been about 6 weeks since I lost my best friend and last night I got another doggie.
Her name is Bailey. She's a Shepherd/Lab mix who will be 4 years old next month.
So far, she seems to take to the family well, though she is extremely shy.
I picked her up Friday evening and have the weekend off to get her accustomed to being in my home.

She is very timid, but also extremely well mannered and an absolute sweetheart. I'm sure after spending weeks of looking that both me and her made the right choice in each other.

Here's a pic of my new friend:

Neat cool, good stuff on the new doggie, just had to think or take a double look at the wording and it was that it sounded like a car auction in in selling/buying a 2nd hand dog over a car!

Thinking that at the auction you just go around look at the dogs engine, kick the paws, and check out the truck for space.............

Dunno just my warped mind at work as usual :)

    Cute little lady.
Won't really replace what you lost, but give her time and she can make a place for herself.

I just love this, another one saved from death row!:wine Since she's shy then don't force her to do anything, better to let her find things out for herself, though she looks nice and relaxed in that pic and tail's up, she looks more curious than anything.:) Enjoy.

Thanks all. I'm just letting her have the run of the place and not approaching her too soon. I actually just found out through her vet records, that she will be 5 in August.

Her 1st night, I decided not to try to crate her, though she is crate trained.
We just left our bedroom door open and let her decide where she wanted to sleep.
The crate is set up in my office with that door open also and she knows where it is in case she feels the need.
She seems to be comfortable enough to eat around us and will lay in whatever room we are in.

It took less than the 1 hour car ride back to my house to fall in love with her. My wife and daughter are giving her plenty of space, even though they are anxious to love her up.
My heart was heavy with the loss of Jimbo, but this little cutie is already making life a little bit happier.:)

You're right. She is a cutie.
Probably pretty smart, also, being a Shepherd/Lab mix. Both smart breeds.

What a wonderful day it must have been for you and your family. It is good that you are able to move on and share your love with another furry friend. I'm sure that your boy Jimbo will be happy knowing that you have taken another furry friend into your home to love just as you did him. He (Jimbo) will remind you time and again that he is still around in your heart and memories by little things that Bailey may or may not do that was like him. I speak from experience as of the May 7th of this year it was 3 yrs ago that I had to send my buddy to a free and painless place as he was full of cancer and I did not have $2,000. for an op that wasn't guaranteed to keep him around for his life span. And then "Arnold" came into our lives. Not that we were really ready for another but he sure did help to ease a lot of pain we were having with our Spike being gone. There are a lot of things he doesn't do that our Spike would and some that he would that makes us feel good.

Happy Day to you and yours with the new/used cutie.

Oh wow very cute dog! :) seeing cute animals always makes me wish I could have more animals. But once again very cute dog and hope your family enjoys and loves it just as much.

That's a beautiful dog! Congratulations on finding her... though the intelligent gleam in her eyes is potentially a bad sign. Lord knows what she might decide to try if she gets bored. ;)

Do you know anything about her background? I adopted a 3-year old cat once, who had been badly abused by his previous owners, and he was for obvious reasons very timid around anyone of the same age and gender as the abuser (middle-aged women), skittish and over-all traumatized. Hopefully nothing like that has been done to your new baby, but when you adopt an adult dog you do get their past as a part of the bargain, and maybe something happened that made her shy?

Then again, she doesn't actually look timid in that picture. She looks like, "oh, what's that? It's shiny! Can I chew on it? Can we play with it?" LOL

A dog we got was abused by its owners before us. It was thrown against the wall and beaten so bad they had to operate on his testies cause he was so beaten up all around. The dog was found out in the country in the winter time laying next to a dead dog(female) wimpering so I assume my male dog was with this female dog for a reason. Anyways after we viewed him few times and he peed on my mothers shoe.. we just laughed and loved him. Eventually we found that he was protective of few things but always the most loving dog ever. But when the dog seen other people other then us(family) he didn't like them and most of the time it was kids that the dog reacted and barked and wanted to bite them(so we assume kids beat him up) anyways he chased kids few time.. kids tease and sway sticks at him while he was on a chain to go crap outside and he broke metal 2 inch chain.. then 2 other times kids open door for no reason(they don't live there) there just silly kids.. but yet kids got chased home and 1 barely got nip on butt cheek.. (talked to parent who was family friend) so they said they wouldnt report.. plus there kid open our door on no tresspassing signs and beware of dog signs. But once the dog got older he got a lot calmer.. And the thing thats weird is dog reacted mean towards other kids yet not us..

Her previous mommy and daddy got her from a breeder and had her for almost all of her life.
They gave me her vet records and she saw the vet frequently for check-ups and shots, but had no health issues.
They are both working professionals and the main reason that they decided to re-home her is that they now have 2 human toddlers.
Judging by the 45 minutes that I spent sitting in their living room talking to them last evening, they are very loving, caring people, but between work and the 2 ankle biters, they really feel like they were not giving Bailey enough attention.
I can already tell that the change in homes is going to take some getting used to, as the little ones were a tad rough with her and now she is in a mellow environment.
She is jumpy, but seems able to relax when she wants to, so I'm more than confident that the change in pace will grow on her.
She was playing with me earlier and let my daughter pet her once or twice, but will still shy away.
That's no problem, because we have plenty of time, patience and all the loving she can handle, when she is ready for it.

Sounds like it's going to work out for both of you! You get a new dog to love and care for, and Bailey gets to be in a home where she gets all the time and attention she deserves. That's a win-win situation for everyone. :)

What a wonderful smiling face 'Bailey' has!...she obviously is delighted with her new family. Honours to you for taking on such a mature "rescue shelter".

Our four legged companions really become a family member, so I can imagine how devasted you must have felt with the loss of your friend a few weeks back. (I lost my long time furry friend and the silence was unbearably loud for some time...I hardened at the thought of another companion, until by chance I spied a photo of a rescue cat one sleepless night who immediately stole my heart...he and his sister were found with their dead siblings, abandoned in a wool shed. Now the house is in happy chaos with this oversized young male who is quickly turning into a small black panther.)

I wish your family and Bailey a long and happy life together!:)
    Cheers
