    Hi all,

Last evening, I had a couple of IE browsers open, one on craigslist, and the other at ebay.
I got up to get a glass of water, and when I came back, I had warning boxes all over my screen.
I seem to recall something telling me I was infected with trojans.
Now, I turn the computer on, and it get to where windows is starting, and it reboots. When I try to boot normally, I see a blue screen, with some text on it, for part of a second before the reboot.
I've tried starting in safe mode and it's the same thing, except I don't see the blue screen before it reboots.
What do I need to do to get this fixed? I'm at a real loss here as to what I need to do, so I turned to the experts here.
Thank you so much for you help.

    Thanks for the help.
It doesn't look like that was the fix though.
I completed the step one, and when the computer rebooted, it was right back in the reboot loop.
Is there anything else I can try?
    Thanks again for your help.

You can try doing a repair install. That will not remove malware, but it may get you back up and running.

I chose the repair option, but it appears that it did a new install, but I guess not a perfect install.
When I attempt to start IE or Outlook, I get many .dll errors and am not able to get online yet with that computer.
It looks like it also put me back to SP0 with my XP, so I can't get AVG to install.
I had company come over yesterday evening and stay until late today, so I haven't had a chance to work on it some more.
I will see what I can do about the .dll errors and report back here.
Thanks so much for your help.

Do you still have any system restore points?

I apologize for not getting back before now.
I checked a little bit ago, and the only restore point I have is from Sat. 08/21/10. That would have been when I reinstalled XP. All of my earlier restore points are gone.
What other things can I try to get this computer back online?
Again, I appreciate all the help I have gotten here.

You will need to post in the software forum as I think you will probably find that if you open device manager, you will find some !'s or x's or ?'s.

In the meantime, since you do have your xp cd, go to start / run / and type:
sfc /scannow. Have your cd handy and run it at least twice.
