Hi, I'm posting here because lately my computer's been extra slow, but didnt really give much thought to it. Then yesterday it was extremely slow, plus while on facebook looking at a freinds profile i got a popup allegedly from facebook asking for personal data. Then I ran my antivirus, eset nod32, and got a couple win32/Olmarik.AJL, but eset wasn[t able to remove nor desinfect said file. Later a friend informed me that he received a spam mail from my account.

I started checking my pc, still couldnt remove the trojans and the malware/spyware kept multiplying according to the scanners.

I guess those are all the symptoms

I ran all the programs in the tutorials, except one bc I have x64.

    Hope you can help me!

PS: im not sure if im attaching the correct mgtools file, please let me know if i'm mistaken

Yes, no point in running Rootrepeal if you're on 64 but did you forget to run the C:\MGTools.exe resulting in a C:\MGlogs.zip which is what I need you to attach.

I ran de MgTools and i got a folder full of files, but no zip, that's why I wasnt sure about that program. SHould I compress the folder and attach it?

WinPcap 4.1.1 <--- Uninstall this only if you did not intentionally install it yourself.

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    DirLook::
    c:\users\Caro\AppData\Roaming\Erda
    c:\users\Caro\AppData\Roaming\Elzo

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

If after running Combofix you discover none of your programs will open up, and you recieve the following error: "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion". Then the answer is to REBOOT the machine, and all will be corrected.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

The only thing that happened was a popup saying steelwerx whami had stopped working. but the mgtools box warned me of that...

other than that all seems fine.

Do you recognise the contents of this folder? If not then delete it!

    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

If after running Combofix you discover none of your programs will open up, and you recieve the following error: "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion". Then the answer is to REBOOT the machine, and all will be corrected.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

After following the other instructions in my last post also run the below.

Go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop

    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Now double click the TDSSkiller.exe file to run it ( if using Vista or Windows 7 do not double click on it but rather, right click and select Run As Administrartor.
    • Allow the application to run and a window will open showing that it is TDSSkiller from Kaspersky
    • Click Start scan
    • It will run rather quickly and will notify you of whether anything is found or not.
    • Follow the instructions to delete/quarantine if asks you what to do when if finds something.
Whether an infection is found or not, a log file should be created on your C: drive ( or whatever drive you boot from) in the root folder named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Please bear with me, we are almost done but there are some registry keys which are locked, and should not be. I just need to ask my colleagues something before we proceed. Thanks for your patience.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.messfrance.com

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

OK, I ran the analyse.exe and deleted the line you said.

Then I tried to run combofix, i got the blue screen, the message saying taht i should take 10 minutes, and then this line:

\STARtools\StarToolsUP\" ECHO."C:\Programs was unexpected at this time

I waited a long while but combofix wouldnt do anything else. Tried to run it again (the cfscript file was still on my desktop) and same thing.

I still ran the mgtools though

Try running the below in safe mode instead of normal mode.

    Code:

You have a bunch of locked registry keys that we need to deal with, and the utmost care and attention needs to be applied whilst we do this. You need to follow instructions exactly as they are written and make sure that you have completed each step precisely.

Now download and install Registrar Lite

Open up the program and navigate to EACH of the following keys. Actually click on they key so that it is highlighted in pale blue. Click on the "Edit" menu and from there choose "Properties" Click on "Take Ownership" and then click on "Permissions" and ensure that "Full control" is check marked if it is not already. Click Apply and click OK.

So remember the two parts to complete for each key, the ownership and the permissions. Just take your time.

List of keys we need to work on.
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ESET\ESET Security\CurrentVersion\Info
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GPExtensions\{25537BA6-77A8-11D2-9B6C-0000F8080861}

    Ok, did what you asked.

I can[t rememeber which one, but one of these two didn[s stick after the reboot:

Something to further discuss in the software forum ;)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Well I don't know what happened between me giving you final steps and now. MSSE has quarantined those items I gather but I cannot see the original location of where these files/folders resided which would have been useful, however let's just have you download run MGTools as per the instructions, then I can get a better look at what is happening here. In the meantime if MSSE finds threats, let me know where, exact files path etc.

Attach the C:\MGlogs.zip into your next reply.

    :Commands
    [emptytemp]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2782/4174320048_f01c448b32_o.png button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it into notepad, save it as something appropriate and attach it into your next reply.

NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and attach the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Before we continue I would like for you to use MSConfig to put this machine back into normal start up mode, if you haven't done so already.

Now that those folders have been deleted I am not seeing anything else in the logs to be rid of so what I would suggest is that you surf around for a few days now and if MSSE keeps finding stuff let me know.
