I have a Blackberry Curve 8520, need assistance using it correctly

So I have an used Blackberry Curve 8520 that a friend gave me since he upgraded to an Iphone 4. Also I have an LG LED Smart TV 42LN5700-UH and it has Wi-Fi Direct, Miracast and Intel WiDi.

I'm having trouble connecting the BB to my Wi Fi router, it does recognize the router and wpa code, but for some reason the browser does not enter any webpage.

But mostly what I want is to use the BB for, is use it as a remote control for the TV since there is an app for this. The app is mainly for iphone and android, but I did found what appears as an equivalent on this website: http://apk4blackberry.com/LG-TV-Remote.html

I havent downloaded since I want to check other options first.

So, does anybody have experience with blackberries and smart tv's? I have found the manuals on a previous thread so I'm starting there but I would like to hear any experiences or advice for this.
