I have a question about malware spreading wirelessly

I don't use wireless, but I have a Mac and by default Airport, Mac's wireless thing, is turned on. I did turn it off, but the thing is my password for my Mac at the time was not a strong one.

Can malware spread wirelessly in a way where someone else's computer in my neighborhood has malware, their computer detected my Mac's airport connection, and then using an automated program it cracked my password and gained access to my Mac? Is there any way I'd know that this happened?

First, this is a windows based malware removal forum. We don't do Mac's. However, from what I understand, I doubt you would be infected unless someone figured out your password and planted something in your system. I would suggest a strong password and leave your wifi off when not in use. Additionally, you may wish to use a firewall.
