After not being able to resolve my previous spyware issue I decided to just do a fresh install of Windows XP.

So, I went through my normal routine and deleted all partitions and reformatted the drive with the XP start up disc.

But when I returned to the desktop and started to re-install all of my apps I got the pop-up for the fake Windows patch. I don't remember exactly what it says but it's the one that says you need to go to updatepatch.info to get the fix.

So, how in the hell do I get rid of something like this when I've deleted all my partitions and did a fresh reformat and it's still there. What can I use to totally wipe the hard drive?

You must not have deleted all the partitions and formatted properly, there can be no other explanation for it. (Unless it was on the media that contained the apps you were installing)

You shouldn't need anything more than the XP CD, so I would suggest you try again and make sure no other partitions are left behind.
