Hello I have a case that has the normal two slots for 2 hard drives, and two slots for 2 cd drives. Well both of my hard drive slots are full, and so is one of my cd slots. The only empty slot I have left is a cd drive slot. I know what your asking yourself. Is this guy crazy? Why doesn't he just take out a drive and add it. Well I'll tell you the reason... I have a special acrylic case, and the only way to add a hard drive or cd drive is to totally dismantle it (takes about 1 hour). As I mentioned I have one free slot for a cd drive. I'm thinking maybe I can use that slot somehow. & put the hard drive in there somehow. This is just a temporary thing. I need the drive in there just for a bit than I will take it out. I will do this every now and than. It's just an extra drive I use from time to time. It has an o/s on it that is different than my other normal drives that's why. & I use it for other purposes. So hopefully there is a way I can add the drive in the cd slot. I read a pc mag once that said you can use two pencils and a rubberband or something I dunno.

Back in the day, there used to be add-on brackets that would fill in the extra space so hard drive was wide as the CDROM slot for purposes of bolting it up, I think I just threw one out the other day. Have you checked local computer stores, especially if you have a place that sells used parts or does mainly repairs who might have this. Optionally, if you have tools, you could purchase some metal l-brackets and cut them to fit so it lines up. Little harder if your bad with tools... like me :) If you measure the space you are short, you might be able to find some sort of square metal tubes that would fit in there with no modifications, Home Depot, Lowes has lots of weird stuff like that. I would not be suprised if a CompUSA didnt have them (thought I saw them the other day) on the racks with fans and other parts.

If I understood you correctly, all you REALLY need is something to make the hard drive bolt into the CDROM slot because it is a custom case. If so, be sure to explain it that way, so they understand because I know you know what the problem is, but I had to read it a couple times :) If I misunderstood, I just lost 3 minutes of my life ;)

Just view the pic below and you will understand what I mean. If I take the blue side of the case off the motherboard comes off with it. Meaning it would take an hour just to take thats side off. So I basically need to know how I can have an extra hard drive go on the third bottom cd drive slot without having to open the side of the case which takes about an hour or two. I can only open one side. The clear side.

If you are not planning on physically moving the puter around ...just lay it in the slot ....Have the same issue on one of mine ...except it has a mounting bracket on it from a hp that had it sideways mounted ...so the lip on the bracket sort of holds it in the bay ...it ain't going anywhere .....cause if it did the power supply that doesn't fit the case would fall off....it ain't purdy, but it works.

Exactly, I often run into that problem and simply use 2 screw on one side. As Tim said, if their is no bottom support, then i would only do it if I was not moving it.

You can get a 5 1/4 to 3 1/2 mouting bracket cheap, for 5-10 bucks

Please dont restart threads a week later. I already suggested the bracket and if you read the thread, that was not the issue.
