Three days ago I noticed a buzzing from my CPU. I opened the case and blew out any dust, cleaned the fan, and checked around for anything unusual. The buzzing is still here.

I notice that the sound seems to come from behind my floppy disk drive or maybe the hard drive but I'm able to use both of these drives.

Has anyone else had this problem. My case is not hot or warm and when I touch the front panel where my floppy's go in, I feel the vibration. Thanks.

I'll take a look at the heatsink. Thanks. ;)

Sounds like a fan on the way out to me, is there a front fan on the case?
Wires can also get riskyly close to the blades of fans, check for wiring as well :)

It may be one of the drive bearing is shot. I have a notebook drive that is so loud you can't here mp3's through the tiny notebook speakers

Okay, I opened the case for the umpteenth time and really looked and dusted off everything. I said earlier that I noticed the sound was coming from the front and behind the floppy drive.

I took out the hard drive, dusted that then took out the floppy drive. Everything seemed fine. When I reconnected the floppy, I noticed that one side of the casing was seated just a little lower than the other. How could this happen if this was the first time I ever removed the drives? Fairies maybe?

I just tried to seat it evenly and now the buzzing has stopped. My computer seems too quiet now. LOL

Thanks for all of the suggestions which I filed away for the next time...because we all know there WILL be a next time. ;)

I've had similar problems, most often solved by simply tightening the screws. It was a Seagate hard drive, running at 7200, and it seemed to have loosened the screws. It made noise above and beyond what could be expected.
