This is the situation. My brother is about to buy himself a laptop and has fear of it being stolen. So I told him that I have heard of a software(program) that even if someone steals the laptop, as soon as he goes on-line, the software will notify us the whereabouts of the laptop. I am not sure if that means sending us the ip address or what. This I do not know. Also, it was said that even if the person reformats the hard-drive, the software is not affected. Is there a software out there that my brother could buy for his laptop for a little piece of mind???

 

I've never heard of any software like this in my nine years of being in law enforcement. That's not to say that it doesn't exist, but I haven't heard of it, and I know of no program that is saved on the hard drive that would survive a format.

well... try to find a Laptop with some kind of built in security feature... it may seem kinda funny... but look at what toshiba does

Strange, I've never heard of these programs. I'm wondering if they are all that popular or used only in cases where extremely important equipment/information needs to be mobile.

 

No, for people with extremely important stuff they generally don't use it, it's probably a solution for users who are just cautious,people who have extremely important stuff just are EXTREMELY cautious....

 

Wonder if you can add an internal GPS tracker independent of the Laptop hardware something like tags that are attached to criminals who are confined to home. There may be some space inside to squeeze something in or perhaps lodged in the floppy or DVD/CD ROM drives.
