I have the CD but lost the COA/Key for it.

Help, my home machine has crashed and I re formatted it with 98 SE. Next I found my XP cd but no COA key. Tried everything I know but no luck. Now that I used the 98 to clean it all, I can not retrieve the key thru other software. Im sure I messed up bad but still hoping for a way out. Can I not find out the Key to make this disk work again??? Please help, someone!!

As you have installed Win98, the only route you can take to possibly get a replacement COA is from Microsoft if the XP you have was "Retail" version or your system builder ( Dell, HP etc ) if OEM version of XP that came with your PC.

If Retail, the COA sticker is generally on the CD case or manual, if OEM its generally on the PC case, so check for those items if not already done so.

You will need proof of purchase, if contactting MS.

I stopped short of installing win 98 SE because I just wanted to make sure that the hard drive was totally clean, and my XP disk was still not found at the moment, but after I finished formatting, I kept looking and then it turned up but no docs/coa etc was to be found, you see I had just moved, and still cant find it. Im afraid it may have gotten thrown out by mistake.
