Every time I do any kind of websearch.. Yahoo, Google, Dogpile, etc... I get a new window that pops up and does the same search in www.upspiral.com and when I try to click on the links from MY search it closes the link window and my search window leaving only the upspiral page. I've run adaware and Anti-Spy and have mcafee and none of them fix anything. I also have HiJack this.. but I'm afraid to use it since I could be deleting something that I need.

    PLEASE HELP!!!!!

    Thank You!!
    Jessica

    Please follow the steps below:

Download HOSTER and then follow the below steps.
    • Unzip Hoster to a convenient folder such as C:\Hoster
    • Run Hoster.exe, click Restore Original Hosts and then click OK.
    • Click the X to exit the program
    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates for all programs.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps below:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

Ok.. I did EVERYTHING that you said and that the "read first" thread said to do (took quite some time but it was worth it!) It found a bunch of stuff that my McAfee and AdAware alone had missed (unfortunatly I didn't think to write it all down until too late) however anytime I search I still get UpSpiral popping up... I checked different search engines and it actually does NOT pop up with DogPile but if I click on a link it will close all my explorer windows.

I also have a message when I start up my computer that I thought might mean something to you:
    "Error loading E6F1873B.DLL
The specified module could not be found"

Also in both BitDefender scans it said regarding C:\Windows\Temp\GLF2FGLF2F.EXE =>wise0008 Infected with Trojan.Downloader.TSupdate
    C:\Windows\Temp\GLF2FGLF2F.EXE =>wise0008 Deleted
    C:\Windows\Temp\GLF2FGLF2F.EXE Update Failed

maybe that means something... maybe I'm just paranoid about everything right now....

I've also attached my HijackThis logfile as requested... PLEASE help??

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME AND EFFORT!! It does not go unnoticed

Did you run CCleaner and were the options set to clean temp folders? It should have removed those files.

    See this link about BulletProofSoft

    http://netrn.net/spywareblog/archives/2004/05/17/bulletproofsoftcom-sites-now-installing-adware/

Also see them listed here on the rogue list: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

You should uninstall this SPYWAREREMOVER & BPS Popup Cookie Shield by them.

If you are using WinXP or WinMe, make sure you have system restore disabled (per the tutorial).
For all OS types, make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://hsremove.com/done.htm
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://hsremove.com/done.htm
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {0753E7C2-230A-01FC-01B6-7432A41EB0C7} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\fcbl.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ttupt] C:\WINDOWS\ttupt.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msst] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\msst\mssts.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [A70F6A1D-0195-42a2-934C-D8AC0F7C08EB] rundll32.exe E6F1873B.DLL,D9EBC318C
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [fofo] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\fofo\fofom.exe
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Uninstall BitDefender Online Scanner v8 - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete
    :
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\msst <--- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\fofo <--- the whole folder
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\fcbl.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\E6F1873B.DLL
    C:\WINDOWS\ttupt.exe
    C:\Windows\Temp\GLF2FGLF2F.EXE

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST). Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.

Now we need to Reset Web Settings
    :
    1) If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2) Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3) If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.
