I was going through my files.. old things... and I found this scan of a letter.

Years ago, CP and MA were on a radio show.. and I couldn't listen to it because I was on my own, with a baby, and didn't have enough money to buy a radio. Gary sent me a CD/Radio anonymously with this note in the box.

I cried.. I was so grateful. He died of Cancer several years ago, and I miss him very much. You new people (2005+) are unfortunate in that you missed having the light of someone so wonderful shined into your lives.

I mis you G.T. Rest in Peace, honey.

Yes, he was a sweet man and still very much missed.

    That was nice of him.

    BTW:
When I saw the "Department of Corrections" title at the top of the letter, I momentarily wondered why Saint Nick had a prison at the North Pole.:-D

He wouldn't admit to it either... even after I showed him how I tracked him down. He said it was nice of someone, and that he hoped I liked it.

He was a very modest person. He often put others needs before his own. Truly a member type that is missed.

I stayed overnight at his house shortly before he died, on my way home from Biloxi. One of the things I will always regret is not paying for the picture of the two of us during our trip to Graceland. :( He was a genuinely caring, giving man, and I still miss him too.

    One in a million.

    What is on the CD?

Oh, there was no CD, it was a CD player with a radio

Yeah, Gary was a one in a million. I still remember him often. Sometimes the people we least want leave us have to check out of life:(. He had a great heart and was a real great guy.

Barry, I second that. Gary was a humble and wise man. :)

Renate, wow indeed Gary was one of the gems of the internet community and always had time for others and actually cared, he also was sooo genuine that it makes me wish for more like him in this digital age.

The lasting impression of Gart for me was a person who could debate a topic with such class and knowledge and would never resort to flaming the other users, he would beat them into submission with fact!!

Plus that letter just reaffirms his superb wit. The internet anf forums like Majorgeeks did loose a superb humanitarian.

I miss when he, and you guys and I were all on together. When we started a thread it was 6 pages long in 20 minutes and it was HILARIOUS. I mean.. the new folk try, and they're nice folk over all... but lounge now can't even hold a candle to the lounge back then.

But I had to hand in my geek card.. Having all these children wrecked my brain and I can't remember how to do much of anything that doesn't involve removing bodily fluids from surfaces anymore... I think he'd have gotten a real kick out of some of the kid stories. But hardly anyone comes around anymore that I have any connection to, so I don't really have anyone to tell them to.

Yeah, I miss threads that were actually amusing and debates and discussions that were actually worth having. They're a rarity now, rather than the norm. Some weeks there's barely a post in the Lounge Forum for days. That's how "interesting" it's become. Such is life, for here anyway. I try my little bit, but I have R.L. issues, the same as everyone else.

Years ago, Goldfish made a list of some of the things I said around here, and I found it the other day. It made me smile. Those were the days.

    I remember GT. It's a shame he's gone now. :(

I also remember coming to the Lounge and it being more lively. I've only recently started coming back to this website after years and it really isn't the same as it was before.

    Hi Col Angus

Good to see you around these parts again and I totally agree with you, the topics of debate are not as good as before as they dont have depth, they are the "what you doing for weekend 10.7, or do you eat beans type of thread" sad thing is you cannot these days really start a good topic of debate type thread as you'd just get childish remarks so its not worth starting them I tried a year or so ago with a fw threads to get the creative mind juices flowing but they decended into something a 5yr old would be embarrassed about.

I just dont think we have anyone with the gravitas that Gary had to reign in these debate type topics and keep them on track, its sad as I think there are some great minds and opinions here but some do act the fool.

I remember GT briefly as i was a new member at the time but having lurked around for a time before joining i remember him a a very compassionate guy who always had time for others, he is sadly missed.

I wish a lot of the old crew were still around. Even the ONE day Kodo and I were on together we had a 6 page thread in 5 minutes, and it was like sneaking back to old days. I could just picture GT shaking his head and about to get all fatherly on us, like he always used to, right before joining in. I know it just keeps being repeated, but I miss those days.

I wish some of those conversations were still archived someplace, so we could dust them off and look at them.

I think they should be still available just would need to know some key words to search for in an Advanced Search or just search a users previous posts but that may take a while.

I still chat to some of the old crew but thats via email now as they dont really wish in the main to join in now for reasons mentioned in a few posts of late, I know forums evolve over time and people move on and thats their choice, and we just need to move on too and make the best of what we have now.... go kick some butt Wenchie!

Oh you see me kicking butt. I'll keep doing it too.

I think Jim told me he moved all of that, or deleted it for space. But I'll double check. I mean, my post count was 40K at one point, so it stands to reason since it's not anymore then the associated posts are probably gone.

But if I find them I'll share some.

Yeah oldest I can get back too so far on my started threads is 2006, pretty sure I'd have started a few between 2002 and 2006. That wayback Machine site sometimes caches/archives this forum pages.

Oldest I can find on WayBack is Dec 04, and there wasn't much going on.

Jim send me the Archives, and I've been pawing through them. Yes, i remember naz. He wanted to send me an innertube to float down the Hudson and be his sugar mama or something of that nature. It was funny.. and sad :p

I enjoyed reading threads from the Lounge back in the day like the ones Wenchie posted. I didn't really contribute that much to the conversation because I liked reading what everyone had to say.

I'm sure with the right people the Lounge can regain some of its former glory.
