I'm looking to buy a new computer with a $600 buget and I was wondering if any of you can suggest or recommend me on what to buy. Right now, my computer is over 5 years old with Windows ME, so I really need to get a new one. I will be using the computer for gaming, schoolwork, internet surfing, IM, email, and multimedia(so basically everything).

The $600 will need to include everything: the computer, printer, shiping & handling, etc. I don't know how to homebuild a computer, so that's out of the picture.

Do any of you know any good deals out there? :) Thanks!

Get one of those Dell bundles. You're not going to get a good gaming rig for 600 though. Some video cards cost that much.

I guess dell would be a good pick if you want it to have everything. www.cyberpowerinc.com has nice custom pc's but monitor and printer are add ons and cost alot there. With dell they have free printer and screen upgrade offers all the time.

On cyberpowerinc I built a basic pc and got it around 750 w/o printer. I cut down alot and got it to 630 w/o printer. The printers they offer are expensive and it would be best to just get one from a local store. Customized a dell dimension 3000 for 605$ w/ all. So I guess dell is a better choice for you. Also did not get any warranties with dell.

I agree on the Dell. I needed a replacement computer fast, and got one a couple years ago. Its been great, plus the last place I worked had all Dell computers, and the techs said they loved them ( good service contracts and quick part replacemnt if needed). You may not get a hot rod, but they seem to be fairly solid. The basic onboard graphics won't be sufficient for gaming online as "earlthemailman" mentioned above.

However...You can always upgrade your video card later, when you get more money

Can you give me the website for customizing Dell computers? What kind of graphic card minimum do i need for a game like....AOE 3 for example?

Heres the site for the dimensions 3000 customizing http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/cto_dimen2400?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

These are the requirements for aoe 3
    Our Recomended System:
    -2.0ghz or better processor
-Windows XP operating system(maybe a linux version?)
    -512mb of RAM
-3.5GB of Hard Drive Space(gotta have mods)
-128mb 3D Compatible Video Card (ATI or nVidia preferrably)
-Microsoft Mouse, Microsoft Intellimouse® or compatible pointing device
    -Keyboard
    -Compatabile Windows Sound with Speakers

For some reason dell site is not showing cards they offer so i cant recomend one right now.

    Price: $819.99
    Less Rebate: - $220.00
    Final Price: $599.99*

    - AMD Athlon 64 3700+ Processor
    - Asus K8V Deluxe VIA Socket 754 ATX
    - Ultra1024MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz Memory
    - XFX GeForce 6600 GT AGP 8x Dual DVI Video Card
    - Ultra V-Series 400-Watt ATX Power Supply
    - NEC ND3540A 16x DVD±RW Dual Layer DVD Burner
    - Maxtor DiamondMax 10 160GB ATA-133 Hard Drive
    - Masscool AMD K8 Cooler Fan
    - PS/2 Keyboard (Black)
    - PS/2 Optical Wheel Mouse (Silver & Black)

But since you only have a 600.00 budget, this might not work, since initially you'll have to dish out 819 (+ shipping).. And the rebate will probably take a few months to even come in, heh. Just a thought though.

    I just bought a barebone's off TigerDirect for 320.00 ... added on a 250.00 for another 79.99..

The 320.00 came with a AMD 3700+, gig of ram, shitty mobo (For 50 more I could have had a nice Asus, I wasn't thinking), power supply, heatsink, mouse, keyboard, and um.. well the case heh. I could have done better, by just spending a "little" more.

thi3f- your barebone kit looks good, but It doesn't include a printer and monitor so it's out of the picture......
Maybe I could get one of the cheaper barebone kits so I could buy the printer and monitor separately.

Tourangh- thanks for all the help BTW. The Dell bundle doesn't include speakers, floppy disk drive, Microsoft Word, and it doesn't seem to include a printer.

When you customize one dell you can add floppy word... Buy a printer seperate, it dosent need to come with the pc.

You dont need word because you can get a free alternative(probably one from this site) Just to save $

The barebones kit below sounded good. Has a good video card with it. By the way the aoe3 req. i listed are not the actula req. but the suggested requirements i got from some site.

If you dont need a monitor go with the bare bones kit. You can look around for those. Buy whatever you want seperate. I look around for you a bit.

It is refurbished...but it is a good deal, and a budy of mine bought a refurbished emachine from tiger direct about a year ago, and hasn't had an ounce of trouble!! I think they are reliable!! And they do come with a little bit of a warranty, so it's not like you get it home and three days later it craps out on you, and you out of luck...especially if you are kind of knowledgeable in computer troubleshooting!!!

Here a the links for the computer and then the monitor and then the printer...

Granted you would have to put up a couple extra bucks up front, because some of it is mail in rebates...but it is a hell of a setup for $600.00, especially considering that it includes the LCD Monitor!!!! The preinter is free after the rebate and it is one of those all-in-one deals...printer/scanner/copier, and it is also the same thing you would get from dell considering that dell printers are nothing more than a lexmark with a dell logo on it!!

But, anyway...I think it comes out to something like...$675.00 total, minus a $45.00 mail in rebate for the moniter, and the printer is free after the mail in rebate...so after that it would be $570.00, then taxes and all that other crap!!!

Let me know if you've got any questions!!
