    Or somthing similar.

I went out for a run today, took my CD player with me. I got about 10 seconds worth of music before it completly cut out becauuse of the skipping. I need somthing solid state, or with a small hard drive thats not going to skip!

I dunno, iRiver's seem to be good too... we shall have to see when I get my first paycheque from my first big job :)

I love my iPod! It's incredibly convenient. My advice to you goldy: Do not forget it in your car, or somewhere else where it's probable that the temperature will be more extreme than usual. I left it in the car too many times when it was either really hot or really cold, and now the fast forward and back doesn't work. For a while it was so sensitive, I could just hold it, and it'd pause. There's a one year warranty though, so I have plenty of time to get a new one. Sometimes people scoff at the fact that it got messed up so early, but the truth is, I wasn't careful with it enough. It was my fault.

Also, the bummer: when the battery completely runs out, you'll have to get a new one - for a hundred bucks. You send it in, and they replace it. Or else you can go purchase a new battery and try and replace it yourself...only do that if you know you won't mess it up. Or do it before your one year warranty is up. I'm not sure how much the batteries cost, if you buy it on your own (I think it's less than if you were to send it though).

Another bummer: Apple.com doesn't sell 40GBs (around 10,000 songs) anymore (that is, the 40GB WITHOUT the Photo option; just the plain ones). I have the 20 and was hoping to maybe get an upgrade, but I don't think they can do that, unless I just buy the Photo iPod, which I don't need...But I'm sure 20GB (around 5,000 songs) is enough to last me for a while. And if not, I can either upgrade or save up to buy a new one, and sell the one I have.

Good luck! You'll love it. It also has Games, and other stuff. It even holds texts for you.

    :)

oh, and btw...I've heard every opinion under the sun about all the different mp3's. I heard the Creative Zen one is too sensitive, and also I've heard it's awesome and it does so much more than iPods (it comes with a radio). For iRivers, I've heard they're really nice but bulky, and also that they're just plain not as good as iPods. Many people love iPods because of the circular touch-pad, which is really cool and speedy.

A friend of mine has a Zen, and to be honest I just don't like it. I just don't get on with the design!

I really do want an iPod but I'm real bummed that they don't do the 40GB ones any more... I really liked them!

I have to say I've replaced a battery on an iPod before. It was scary, and very fiddley, but I managed :D Like you say, to send off and replace a battery is about £65, whereas the battery itself is like £40. I've also heard the hard drives are propriatory hitachi micro drives, which one can purchase quite easily. However, if you wanted to give it a larger storage capacity, you'd need to reflash it with a different version of the firmware (apparently...).

But yeah, it'll be my "well done you've finished it" prezzie :)

Now I'm confused...did you go running or skipping? ;)

Actaully you can get them with what is called an anti-rolling mechanism which prevents this. I had one back in the early 80s...it's no knew thing :) HTH

This one has all that, and a 45-second skip protection buffer. It does nothing. :(

Hehe...would love to see how you jog then...must be like being on the moon with zero gravity and bouncing up high at each step ;)

Thanks for the warnings about battery life and replacement. Just another "gotcha" they don't tell you about when you want to buy one. Bazza

Well the problem is that either the cdplayer goes in my hoodie pocket - and jumps around every time I take a step - or it does in my trouser pocket - and gets the full jolt of vibration from my leg. Either way, its so joggey that the 45 second buffer gets used pretty fast.

My son has some kinda arm strap that he puts his in when he goes jogging. I just tried to find the player..I thik it's an MP3 player tho not a CD, which I guess is another option open to you.

for the most part it is like any other rechrgeable battery on the market.... all of them have a maximum amount of time they can be discharged and recharged before they go dead. and you can get the replacement batteries off of ebay for about 25$ US.

Alright goldy, I'll give you my honest opinion...

Apple have gone for looks over practicality, as in they look great, the menus are great and the touch pad was a great invention. But mine just resets itself randomly and installing it can be a pain.
The headphones weren't as good quality as made out to be, found my £10 Panasonic earphones were much better, and the cabling on mine split within a few weeks.

If you do decide to get one however, definitely pay out to get a case for it, get's scratched easily.
And have you considered the ipod photo which has 60gb or even 80gb if you're mad!??!!!??!

Yeah my friend has one of them and I just don't like them. The whole button thing isn't tactile enough for me :p I like the feel of real buttons that you can push down and they click when they're fully depressed, not touch activated panels. Scrolling is another matter entirly, though :)

Hopefully when I get paid for the job I'm about to complete, I'm going to go on a walk down tottenem court road for a shopping trip :)

accessories thrown in for free as well! ;)
