I need help in selecting a modem/router

I need help in selecting a modem/router. One that, when it loses it's connection or power will restart itself when power is restored.

I recently installed DSL, after having connected to the Internet via a dial-up service for at least 10 years. I used a modem/router that was recommended by my service provider, since they said that was the one they would support. They talked me through the installation.

The modem/router is a Netopia Model 3347W-006 - I think it was specifically mfg by Motorola for Bellsouth, now AT&T. BTW, I have two (a back-up) and both function exactly the same.

Since then, every once in a while, this modem/router will lose it's connection. Either the Wireless output or both. All the lights on the box indicate that it is working correctly and the only clue that it has stopped functioning is not being able to connect to the Internet (Windows XP).

The only 'fix' is to turn off the power to the unit, then turn it back on and go through the same procedure as required for initial installation. First get the LAN connection working and then get the Wireless output working. When it loses power, the only thing it 'remembers' is the administrative log-on password. I'm glad I took notes when I was talked through the initial install.

I would like to get a modem/router that will automatically re-start itself when the power is turned off and back on. I have no idea what specs to look for that are an indication that the modem/router will do this. Nor do I have any idea of the brand name/model of a modem/router that has this function. For all I know such a modem/router doesn't even exist.
