I need help quickly with windows xpee pee

Hey the news is saying that there is a storm headed my way with a possible tornado and baseball sized hail. If I drop out of site for a bit it will be because we were told to go downstairs to a stormshelter. Personally I think that it is silly to run hide but I was told that the next time I refuse to go downstairs, I will be evicted. If I have to go, I will come back ASAP. Ok?

The shelter is one of the safest places to be when there is a tornado. I've seen plenty of them, had one touch down in the school yard when I was a kid, there was no warning.

 

My great grandmother was in Oklahoma and got sucked out of a underground shelter when the tornado came over it and she was dismembered. I also have run before to a culvert when I lived in Central Texas and the tornado was coming straight at us. It's just at this stage of my life with as much pain as I am in, I can't start over again and if the building goes down, I would just as soon go down with it.

 

Shadow this problem that I am having with not being able to play games and such ois also affecting my ability to search on the programs page to find a program that we got from here before called FreeRam. I think that I installed something wrong and probably out to try to reformat again. This is a brand new problem for me. I really dont like it.

 

Go to Start > Control Panel

Double-click Add or Remove Programs

Find the entry for J2SE Runtime Environment and tell me which one you have or if it is even installed.

Oh thank you for the link Shadow. I don't have enough RAM and without that program I was hanging up while switching between different art programs. This program works very well for me.

 

You only need one, Uninstall Java2 Runtime Environment SE v1.4.2.

It updated my sp2 and media player but nothing else. I looked for hidden updates and clicked on everything there but it never gave me the link for that network problem or anything else. It kept telling me that I am up to date but I know that it cant be true.

What does MTF mean?

 

MFT = Master File Table, it is what tells windows what is installed on the HDD and what the first sector of the HDD where the file is stored as well as the size of the file.

 

WOW Shadow! I downloaded that one thing and it had two more updates so I ended up installing each of the updates and had to reboot inbetween each of them.

 

That's normal with microsoft.

I still can't do a search nor play a game in the arcade or attach anything to a post.

 

Oh and I still havent hooked up my HP PSC 1200 yet because I know that it created a conflict someplace but I really need to use it to send paperwork to the home health agency.

 

Install the drivers that came with it, you may have to uninstall AVAST to install the HP PSC 1200 drivers. I've had problems in the past installing the drivers with AVAST installed.

 

I'm not really sure what is causing that problem. I am Assuming you are using IE6. In IE click-on Tools on the file menu, select Internet Options, click-on Security tab, click-on the Default Level button, clikc-on Apply. Next click on Privacy tab, make sure Settings is set to Medium, click-on OK. Close IE6, then restart your browser. What happens?

I can search ok from google but I haven't been able to use the search on majorgeeks. I am actually here testing right now. My friend in Australia who is an uber geek sent me a message to uninstall my browser and redownload it. So I did and also installed a couple of other files she sent me. I just lost miserably at Zelda but at least I got to see the game for the first time. Now I am going to upload a smilie or something to see if it works. I can see the smilie menu! Yippee! Now I am crossing fingers and toes to see if I can attach a file. Oooooo It says it worked! We will see in just a moment.

OK it now appears that some of my browser troubles have been resolved. I am going to try to install my psc now. Uninstalling Avast first.

You may not have to uninstall AVAST, try loading the PSC drivers first. If that doesn't work then unistall AVAST and install the PSC drivers. It's just that I've had problems installing PSC drivers in the past with AVAST installed.

Curious, what files did your Aussie friend have you install?

 

Sha says that my downloads are coming too fast and it was some kind of test to test file integrity. It is gone now because I just looked for it. Linda and I have trouble understanding each other sometimes because Aussie English and American English are two totallty different languages. She is watching this thread as well.

I am supposed to ask how to slow down some of my downloads. She just tried to tell me on yahoo but I couldn't understand everything that she was saying. Besides that I need it in writing so that I can check and double each step as I am doing them.

 

Shadow I had already uninstalled Avast before your post. I have installed the psc and updated from from the HP site. I am now going to test the scanner. (I really hate Avast anyway. I have used it before and it created conflicts with my paid programs)

 

What are your download speeds? Mine run between 4.5-4.7Mbs. If your not having problems right now, I would leave it alone.

Linda says that several files got corrupted because my pc is not used to things coming so fast and that it corrupted my registery. And also because the cable software ignored my ethernet card and wanted to install something else instead.

 

I have tuner conflicts now.

 

If you don't like AVAST give AVG Free Edition a try.

 

Your download speeds are slow for cable, your upload speeds are about average.

 

It's entirely possible that the cable software was what corrupted your registry.

 

I like AVG. I have just uninstalled the psc and am going to uninstall most of those antivirus programs and try to install the scanner again. Thjen I will reinstall the other programs.

 

Run EVEREST again, click-on Report, Select Reports Wizard, click-on Next, select System Summary Only, click-on Next, select Plain Test, click-on Finish, click-on Save To File, save somewhere that you can find it again, click-on Save, click-on OK, exit EVEREST. Post that file, unedited, as an attachment. I need to see the complete system summary. Make sure I didn't miss any drivers you may need.

 

The MS Anti-Spyware or SpywareGuard could be interfering with the PSC drivers installation.

 

Everything and I do mean everything got messed up after I put in the comcast cds. All I could do was internet stuff. I couldn't listen to music or use any of my programs. They ought to put a warning label on those things.

 

My brother-in-law found this out the hard way when he signed up for SBC Yahoo. The techs even told him their CD's were bad.

 

You know that is why I questioned why I need so many of these programs. I go to several sites at least once a week with online scanners because PSP and Yahoo and several other programs get messed up by many of the antispyware programs. I dont ever find anything other than "possible bad cookies" I am actually fairly comfortable with most of the programs that I currently use.

 

I would put my money on MS Anti-Spyware is creating the conflict, it is beta software after all. Uninstall it and try installing the PSC drivers.

 

I missed seeing this post. I have uninstalled most everything and now am downloading hp drivers again. As soon as I am done, I will run the Everest Program

You've got all the drivers you need for your hardware from Dell. Once the HP drivers for your PSC 1200 are loaded. Reload the spyware stuff you want to keep. I recommend keeping Ad-Aware and SpywareBlaster at a minimum.

 

Shadow thank you so much for all your help. I will check back in on this thread if I have any more problems. I think that the tuner issue is resolved . . . I called HP and a friend is to bring me a cd when he gets off of work. He says that if it isn't resolved then, to prepare for him to bring others from HP to see the problem. He is tired of my crying about it too. Right at the moment however it already looks fixed. I hesitate to add anything until after Mark and Brian get here this evening.

The exe files for all the antivirus programs are sitting on my desktop so it will be easy enough to reinstall after the guys get here. HP, cattle and sugar beets are the main industries here. Mark has given me a lot of grief about having a Dell in HP country but it was a gift from someone who wanted me to a have a pc that was usable. Maybe my problems will end up being a help to others.
