I recently bought a a GeForce 9600 GT. I'm thinking my issue is that my PSU has only 300W and my card's minimum is 400W. Is there any way to operate it? Would Y power cables help? If not any suggestion on what I should do next? If you guys have an Aim to directly talk that would be cool.

Oh yes and my computers model code is a1726x. Not sure if that will help.

If your cards minimum is 400w and your only using a 300w, my advice is to upgrade that PSU. You can use all the 'Y' cables you want, but if you're only pushing 300w I can't see how that will help any. My suggestion, upgrade that PSU. No need to try and force your present PSU to run something that it just can't. You can get a good, brand name 500w PSU pretty reasonably priced. Thank you for your reply. I see what I should do now. It looks very hard to set this thing up. Is it good if you send it to super geeks or something?

My pleasure. Now, before we go any further, please give the make and model of the computer you're using. I just want to make sure that a standard PSU will fit. Some computers are propritory (SP?) and may not accept a standard PSU, or the connectors. I'd just like to cover all the bases BEFORE you spend your money. As for setting it up, assuming you mean the PSU, that's not a problem and I can help you with that, if you wish. As for the vid card, same there. But first things first, I need to know what computer you're using. Let me know!!;)

    Hey Perplexity,

Just my 2 cents. But, if you want to save some cash, I'm an expert at finding hardware that I can truly rely on AND can afford. You can usually find a MAD DOG psu for under 50 even 40 dollars. I'm a big Mad Dog fan because they are one of the few less expensive PSU's that are considered reliable and of decent quality in the industry. I have a supurb Mad Dog CD burner and 350 watt PSU right now. When I got my new 9600gt, like you, I had to upgrade my PSU to atleast 400 - 450 watts. Right now, I'm using a 500 Watt A-Power PSU with my card which seems to be doing just fine. You have to be really careful when shopping for PSU's though because they can claim to be 5, 6, 700 or more watts and they're not worth the aluminum that they are made with and can fry your pc like southern style chicken.

So, I recommend Mad Dog for value and stability. A-power may be riding a fine line...we'll see I quess. ;) If you have the money though, Antec brand Stubby recommended is top of the line. Another quick and easy way to estimate over-all value of a PSU that many do not know about is by checking the basic weight. It's not always sure-fire, but 90 percent of the time it holds up because the parts that they use to make the PSU's are either light and chintzy or they're a bit heavier and a better quality.

I'm running a GeForce 9600gt, Athlon 64 4800+ CPU, with 2 Gigs of Ram, the second Low-density RAM I just bought new from Ebay for 26 Dollars! Finally, my pc is cutting right through Oblivion and BF2. 'bout time!

    Good Luck!

The Model is a1726x. I'm not sure what you mean by "make" but I think Hewlett-Packard is what you're trying ask for. It is also a Vista.

I recently installed a GTX 260 card and only had 300w psu, it ran the card but got extremely hot so i bought an Antec 600 for about $100 it is a standard size and now everything runs perfectly.

I hope this isn't a bad thing because when I removed my graphic card it kinda broke this black latch(broke in half) but I know it came from the PCIe slot. If you know what I'm talking about...Thankz! :-D:yum

Good call! And thanks! I didn't know Mad Dog made PSUs!? I never checked because until recently I wasn't in the market for one. I'm using a 400w Antec, which served me well, but am looking to get a newer PSU soon. I can vouch for Mad Dog, I have a dvd and cd burner from them. I am also using a Mad Dog Predator sound card! I know this reply is off topic, but again, I know Mad Dog makes good low priced stuff and didn't know they sold PSUs. I will check with them for mine.....the recession has me on a budget!! :cry

I think what you are talking about is the locking clasp for the graphics card and this should not affect the cards performance but if at any time you move or bump the PC there is a chance that the card will come loose.
