Hello there...Was wondering if anyone could give us some advise please, as I'm a newbie to all this Hardware 'mumbojumbo'.:confused

I recently downloaded a programe..i went to install it and then it said I Did'nt have enough RAM in my PC to completely install and run all the files...It said I needed at least 1GB of RAM...

    Now I thought this system of mine(which was only purchased 6 months ago) had 1GB of RAM. So I check Sytem Info...It says;

    iNSTALLED PHYSICAL MEMORY(RAM) : 1 GB
    TOTAL PHSYICAL MEMORY :894 MB
    AVAILABLE PHSYICAL MEMORY :352 MB
    TOTAL VIRTUAL MEMORY :201 GB
    AVAILABLE VIRTUAL MEMORY :980MB

Now....surely all this is enough memory?? isn't it? What does all this mean?? How much memory has my system got?? And why is this certain programme playin 'silly buggers'?

Any advise would be really appreciated....cheers in advance doods...JEDI123

You have 1GB RAM of which apparently available is 352MB.
Virtual memory is hard disk space reserved as an extension to RAM. Basically it doesn't help you with the program you are about to run. What program is it?

Obviously another gig of RAM sure wouldn't hurt!!;) Since RAM is really rather pretty decently priced right now, it wouldn't be too expensive to add another stick of 1 gig RAM. If you want to add another stick, just post your system specs, brand name, OS, etc. and we'd be glad to help you find the right RAM for your particular machine so you can avoid those error messages when trying to install software. Besides, if you're trying to install Adobe CS3, you will need some extra, without a doubt. My wife just bought and installed Adobe CS4 (web edition) and I took her machine up to 4 gigs (Vista).

Looks like it's not going to run on your system. Just buy another stick of RAM, 1GB costs like $15.

According to the Asus website, that mobo has a max of 4GB RAM, but if installed in a 32bit Windows system, less than 3GB will be recognized. So less than 3GB is recommended for those systems.

    ahhh...cheers..i just had a look inside....there is only 2 ports for the stick to go in...so i'll buy myself a 2gb stick....plus the one i've got already...that'll do it....cheers:)

You will want the RAM to run in dual channel. For that you need an even number of indentical/similar RAM sticks. Im not sure if it will work with different size modules.

Best is to get 2x2GB or 2x1GB from the same manufacturer.

That mobo have an integrated graphics chip? If it does it could be that a nice chunk of your RAM is being reserved for that.

Indeed it does have an intergrated graphics chip, Anger. Which leads to my next question....Can I upgrade the graphics in this system without changing the motherboard???? A shop in Bolton was selling an NVIDIA 9800 for 50 quid...about $80. Is that good??;)

Is there any way I could reduce the chunk that this Nvidia 7050 is eating up in my system??

Sorry for the long response time, I don't frequent the Majorgeeks forums. To properly answer your question as to weather the motherboard can support a graphics card we must first find out if the Motherboard uses a PCI-E bus, or AGP 8x bus.

If your system is less then 3 years old then it is most likely a PCI-Express motherboard. This means that you can buy any PCI-Express card and expect it to work with your motherboard.

Now considering your current amount of RAM, you can easily upgrade up to 3 gigabytes of RAM with no problem.

My recommendation is to find the make and model of your motherboard, and then find out what kind of graphics slot is available on the board. There are several types of PCI-Express slots (1.0 and 2.0) and these are all things you should take into consideration when shopping for a new Video Card. The safest bet is just to take your PC to a local hardware shop and ask them what kind of video card could help improve the performance of your PC.

Also the nVidia 9800 is a pretty solid card. You could expect to play games like Call of Duty 4 on high graphics settings without many slowdowns with such a card.

I'm actually not sure of this, but since the card was designed to function with the allotted amount of memory I don't recommend changing any of these settings.

According to the Asus website, this mobo uses PCI-E slots.

well cheers guys...This PC is becoming a bit of a working progress anyways...I'll wait for the january sales before i get new graphics.

Going back to my previous question...I need more ram to install AdobeCS3 but...before that I had After Effects running with no problems...yet they work off the same spec...I'm wondering weather I have uninstalled AE properly, and whether this is eating my RAM??
