    Hi everyone,

I've been trying for the last 48 hours to get my PC back into "shape". Unfortunately, I feel I cannot fix this problem because I do not have the knowledge to do so. I'll provide you all with the most information possible - so it makes it a lot easier to understand.

AVG and other virus detections have said it's a Trojan Horse Dialer.CID

    The symptoms include:

When I click on My Computer, My Music, or any other folder (if that makes sense), everything on my desktop will briefly disappear. All my files are still intact, but I cannot access them. I can access them through MSN Instant Messenger. I have tried clicking on the start menu to get to the folders, but it won't work.

This computer has two users. If I log out of my user (if the problem is temporarily fixed) and log in as the other user, the problem starts up... again!

When the problem is active, I cannot open/operate Internet Explorer. When I temporarily fix the problem, I can do everything!

I have run AVG + numerous other programs and I seem to have been able to delete the "bad" files from those programs. From my understanding, these Trojan Files will "respawn", and I have troubles trying to eliminate this.

Yesterday while I was deleting files, I accidentally deleted my system files. I repaired the files with my Windows XP Boot Disk, but for some reason I cannot access Safe Mode, because I assume it wasn't repaired. Could I please have details on how to fix this?

Also... In Autoruns under "Winlogon" I keep getting this:
    c:\windows\system32\awvvw.dll

I have deleted it numerous times, but it keeps coming back...?
    Any help is appreciated!

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Hijackthis while a decient scanner for browser hijacks and some malware will not highlight all the malware issues on a PC, which is why we list it as the last scan to run, also as malware has become more sneeky, Hijackthis also needs to be installed, re-named and run as laid out in our guide below.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
