I am attempting to create a simple message board, within a Dreamweaver site, I am fairly new to this process, and I do not want it to be hosted by another comapny, I want to know how I can create it from scratch, I understand JavaScript, some ASP, and I am great at html, and CSS. I just need to know what is involved in creating my own messageboard, do I need a database? What about the code? Any help on this one would be great, even something as simple as a guestbook in dreamweaver would be great to start.

you will definately need to use a db.

As for what's involved: A brain, two hands and a text editor. Really, you just have to hash out what you want to do. Design your database around that model and then build the interface to it. Do you understand relational databases?

Yes I understand relational databases, and I have access (ha ha get it access) to creating a database, just need to to know how to configure to code to to talk to the database. Ok I am a beginner, with a knack for code and im a fast learner.

If you've gone into any detail about ASP I'm VERY supprised you've not done databases yet. That was like, the second thing I ever did, make a simple guestbook with ASP and an Access database.

It really is quite simple, but keep a collection of database connection strings handy, cause I've been doing ASP for several years now and I still can't reel one off from the top of my head. :D

I want to throw a tip out there, research SQL injection when you start getting into coding. Make sure you code your database to be able to know whats real and whats not, otherwise some hacker out there is gonna rip it up.

When you are making forms make sure to ask yourself questions, such as if someone sticks an sql statement in this textbox will my code know to throw it away.
