I/O device error

    I have a Samsung CDRW/DVD SM-348B drive that gives me an I/O device error when I try to transfer CD data to hard drive or external. I am running XP service pack 3. I have a couple of questions.
    1. How do I solve the I/O device error problem? Device Manager Settings?
    2. How do I upgrade my Samsung Driver and where?
    3. How do I clean the drive laser lens?

    Brand and model of computer it is in?
    Samsung doesn't offer drivers for internal computer optical drives on its site.

    Are there sites that offer driver updates for this that are safe?

    Plodr... try this link to a Samsung's update support site. I upgraded to version 512 from 503. It didn't solve the problem but as least it's current....I think. http://www.samsungodd.com/Eng/

    I will try this tonight. You may be right. The update I did took it to T512...this one updates it to T505... Maybe that will work.

    I also read that I should try an uninstall of the cd unit and then re-boot. The article said that Windows would recognize the uninstalled hardware and re-install it etc. etc. Ever heard of this?

    Might come down to it..... we'll see. If it doesn't work and things go down the tube...we'll just replace it or go external....stay tuned.
