Today while clearing out some email I was an idiot and thought I was getting a card from a friend. I opened the email attachment called familypostcard2008 and my system went to hell. First I lost the internet wireless connection and a variety of other headaches keep coming up. In regular mode the system goes to the "blue screen of death" and the system dumps saying that there is a paging error where a page does not belong. I have following your entire protocol and upon reboot, I got back to the main screen and it dumped again. After reading online they tell me it's storm worm and it may have downloaded fck2008.exe into the computer. this is my work computer and my virus software was updated and couldn't see this.

Logs are attached of all my scans....can you help?

    Thank you very much,

    Kelly

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

It would be more helpful if you ran the scans in normal boot mode rather than safe mode. Or is your problem making it impossible to run in normal boot mode.

Is your copy of Spy Sweeper a paid copy or a free trial?
    • If free, uninstall it now.
    • If paid, keep Spy Sweeper and uninstall Windows Defender now.
Is the below LapNetWizard something you know about and installed? Why does it show a date for next year? both files are probably for it.
    Code:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\"
    lapnet~1.exe Jan 3 2008 946176 "LapNetWizard.exe"

    "C:\WINDOWS\system32\"
    xplnmon.dll Jan 3 2008 15360 "XPLNMon.dll"

Hmmm??? Is the date on your PC correct? Here is another file showing next year:
    Code:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop\"
    adober~1.lnk Jan 12 2008 1740 "Adobe Reader 7.0.lnk"

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
Viewpoint Media Player <-- should have been uninstalled in step 0 of the READ ME

You only show one potentially bad driver file. Let's remove it and see what happens.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
After reboot look for all of the above files we had Avenger attempt to delete. If you still see them, delete them yourself.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hi!

Nope didn't disappear, just didn't have the time to address all of this properly with the holiday.

The safe mode is because the log programs start in regular mode but then crash to blue screen with a paging error. I was able to finally get all of this done in regular mode so my logs should look better.

    -Spy sweeper is paid for

The computer may very well have been set on the wrong date when those files you saw were installed but it is now on proper date and time.....

Following programs removed in order of your request...

    Windows Defender
    Video Player and
Old Java program removed but when removing java I got a warning something trying to install an "obs"? I told it not to and will scan again....

Spy sweeper found Trojan Dorf/Fam in the sweep so I quarantined it....then when I tried to remove that file you asked me to with avenger, I couldn't find it....unquarantine helped me find the file and it was successfully deleted I believe. It was in that very same file you saw...brillliant!

Logs attached and at the moment, the system is running just fine! I'll keep my fingers crossed and do anything else you suggest. Thank you so much for your assistance and patience!!!!

    Best,

    Kelly

Your logs are clean but I still have the same question about LapNetWizard that you did not address.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix then UNINSTALL COMBOFIX (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN
      • Now type combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
      • Note: The space between the X and the U, it must be there.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    10. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    11. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    12. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
