is it possible for someone to find my i.p address through my myspace profile. they told me they got it through the source code.

this is what the anonymous person sent me

on myspace, it allows html editing, therefore allowing you to edit the source directly, unlike bebo. but everytime you edit the source of a page, you leave a timeprint header, which shows time, date, + ip address it was edited from. this isnt visible viewing the normal source code, but with a little research im sure you could find a tool to help you view it

can they really do that? or are they bluffing..

Unlikely, I know of no way to do this on Myspace.

No, I use MySpace all the time. There are a ton of people who spam Myspace and claim hacks, MOST are bogus.

    Couple questions...

If he has your ip, what is he threatening to do, odds are best he can do is try to flood you, and you will have his ip, which you can report.

If you have a firewall, or are behind a router, you have a good chance he cant touch you.

Finally, don't reply to these people, especially Myspace. Ignore or block this guy and move on. :) Most of these people are looking for a target, those who reply and give them ANY chance to find out more are targets.

    ok heres the story!

someone is abusing me and my friends in my college using bebo.com, im trying to figure out who they are, beacuse they go to the same college. this person has my i.p address. and says he got it from my myspace. hes not doing anything with my i.p hes just trying to prove to be a smartass

someone recently made a direct connection with me on msn through a random file transfer. i think they used netstat -n in command prompt to get my i.p address..

if you really cannot get i.p through myspace. then this must be the guy who made the direct connection to me on msn! because theres no other way he could have got it..

    (i think that made sense?)

Block his ip address in your firewall or router. Still doubt it was Myspace. I mean, what has he accomplished so far, nothing. I also doubt ip addresses can be used to track a person on MSN, but I am unfamiliar with it.

    I didnt misread nada.

    Block bebo.
If he connected to you, there should be a log with his information, hopefully ip. Block it in your router. Block him on msn.

I agree, I think it was MSN. I assume your on broadband? Call your cable company and have them change the ip for you.

    Late here, good night.

they didnt request to add me as a friend on bebo. if they did, it would of shown their email address, and i would of known who they are by now!
on bebo u can comment anyone u want. i dont want to block them. i want to find out who they are!
my i.p changes itself. its dynamic, yes im on broadband.

Anyone with access to your computer or your room can probably get enough information about you to do it, or drop a goodie off of a flash or a disk, so watch who you let use your computer, or get a cheap desktop just for that purpose. All they really need is a user name and a crack at the password. My AOL account got hacked by a spammer once, my password was 13dj77, serves me right. Google "anonymous web surfing". You can also change you machines ID numbers with a Javacool program called ID blaster, but you will need to know what they were in the future to change them back. Please don't get to paranoid, sounds just like what this joker is trying to accomplish. I remember the first time my computer got hacked, felt like someone broke into the house while I was home and robbed the place. On the other hand I guess if it wouldn't have happened, I wouldn't know half of what I do now, about computers. Lucky for me the person came right out and said "Here I am" while I was surfing the web. Hell, I was using Windows firewall, no router, no antivirus, no password, quite a few settings on my PC left me wide open, but after that I started to learn. Change your ISP if it gets too bad, and if you have a decent firewall, (software and hardware combined work best) don't sweat the small stuff.

Dont stress out over it. If the guy was going to do something, he would have and not told you. he won by making you stress out. just having someone ip isnt enough to do real damage. he can ping you...but icmp flooding takes alot. and if you have a firewall, just disable icmp.

do what major attitude said and call your isp and have them cahnge your ip if they will do that.

    NO!

Its been reiterated several times already.

I wouldnt be surprised if they left a comment on your web page that had a link in it to a keylogger though ;)

actually guys there is a site that lets u know the the city as well as ip addresses of people checking out your page and the time that they were looking at your page.

the problem is you only get a link to their myspace page when they are registered to the site which is not really known about.

heres a screen shot of mine

but if u need it its www.hitmapper.com
dont forget the location that your IP Address gives away will really only be accurate for say around 0-100 miles of where you actually are. :)

i suspect a leak or root hijack..

since you're in college i assume you're hooked into the colledge dsl/hispeed community internet, somebody can get into the root and see your ip address and the website you are currently on.. no biggie though

go to proxyway.com they give free programs to disguise your ip. if i was hooked into a colledge campus community connection, my ip address would read that i was in thailand.. you can easily dodge this character.. tell your friends about it too.. also like adrynalene said he may have left a link to a keylogger on your myspace.. virius scan your computer... but pretty much.. common solution= proxy. read the how to on that also, you're gonna need to spend about 20 mins of your time doing that.. it will be well worth it though if the harrassment is a big issue..

If you look at my myspace page, I can get your IP address. I have a tracker that let's me see the IP address's of anyone who looks at my page, so yes, people can get your IP address.

Despite this being an old thread that nobody visits anymore, you didn't read it very carefully. The OP asked if the IP was stored in the source code of his myspace page.

    The answer is still, No.
