Okay, its a simple one for you guys. First off, THANKS for this site. I'm going to install Avast and currently have Norton which came with this new laptop. Any temporary 'free' version is over by now for the Norton.

I just need to know if I should go to add/remove to pull the Norton out and to include all things with the name 'Symaptic' on it...or if I should DL and run your Norton remover tool only...or should I remove it both ways.

I'm on Vista Home version, use IE, and also use Adaware free plus Spybot as well as run CC frequently. Oh, and I turn off the Adaware shield all the time as it slows my system down (or so I think) -- I'm immunized at Spybot and I don't currently use any type of a firewall. All my windows updates are up to date.

I don't have any other types of malware prevention things on here. I'm really just wanting to reduce the Norton sluggishness and don't want to upgrade anyways.

Thank you in advance for replies,
    Lisa

I suggest that you first use add/remove to rid yourself of Norton and then run the norton removal tool. Reboot and run CCleaner ( registry --> make the backup when prompted).

I would dump Ad-aware as it is useless. Keep SAS and MBAM for backup scanning.

Vista has a much better firewall now days, but I would not rely on it. PCTools firewall w/out threatfire should work well for you.
