I Screwed Up

Recently a yellow and black S3 icon showed up in that lower right hand area of the screen next to the clock and it also seems as if morning start up is getting longer and longer. Getting things out of that area always seems to be a major undertaking and I never can seem to remember from one time to the next how to do it. This morning I went to Control Panel - Add Remove Programs, found it and deleted it. The screen resolution had to be reset and now everything is jumpy when I scroll with the mouse wheel and when I click to grab a blue screen bar and move a window. Also, when clicking from one page to another the screen flickers a couple times when opening the new page. Finding smooth scrolling in Windows Help was a lost cause but I finally found it in Google and discovered smooth scrolling is turned on. My system is an Acer running XP. Would anyone know if there is a way to recover from my stupid mistake?

In your add/remove programs, what exactly did you remove? Name of the program?

What are you running for anti virus? Other security software?

Assuming this is not malware, a simple solution may be to do a system restore, say to about a month ago.

But did you download, and subsequently remove, some program to cause this S3 icon?

You're running XP but what Service Pack? Are you upgraded to SP3?

Thank You brandypeppy for your taking time to consider and respond to my post.

After removing the S3 entry in my Add/Remove Programs, I'm not able to find anything now that tells me exactly what it was.

Norton Antivirus - Version 17.7.0.12, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46, Spybot Search & Destroy 1.6.0.31. I have no idea what brought me the S3 icon. It's been here about a week but I'm not sure exactly when it showed up, what it came with. My system is XP Pro, Service Pack 3.

I've heard others talk about a system restore. Would you be able to suggest where I may find instructions for such a procedure. I just checked ?Help and Support on my system and didn't recognize anything like what I think I should be looking for. Thanks, K.

Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then System Restore.

Select restore system, you should be given a "calendar" of restore points to choose.

All this is true only if your System Restore has not been turned off.

But, back to your issue, did you remove a program named S3? I really can't find what this may be?

Thanks Sikvik, funny I didn't find those.

    Another odd thing though, I was going to give the OP a link to Acer Drivers;
    http://www.acer.com/worldwide/support/download.htm

    But that website seems unresponsive.

And under driver downloads, it doesn't offer the U.S. for a location.

My computer is feeling stupid today.
