I suspect it's the router, but...

So first off, let me give you a description of what I'm running off of.

2 identical WinXpPro w/ all updates.

    P4s

    512 ram

    Intel(R) PRO/100 Network Connections

    100 gig drives

box 1 is "desktop" 192.168.1.100, box 2 is "server", 192.168.1.101.

Toshiba PCX2500 Cable Modem with Bright House Networks home cable service in Central Florida, (cfl.rr.com).

Linksys Instant Broadband series EtherFast Cable/DSL router #BEFSR41.

I've been running a small website for about two years now and i've never had a major problem. While away for the weekend my cleaning service knocked the power strip out of the socket causing the systems to reboot.

When I arrived home I noticed that my dynamic ip address had changed, (although it hasnt in about 8 months.) So I thought nothing of it and updated the nameserver on zoneedit.com. I then rebooted the systems and tried the site by it's hostname. I then got the authentication screen for my router...

I then tried my IP. Same thing.

So I tried all the tricks i've used in the past. From leaving everything powered down, then repairing connections, and even creating fresh installations of Xp Pro on both systems. I also followed Linksys' instructions verbatim.

Both systems boot fine, and can access the internet as well as shared files.
In addition to this I also found out that if a system outside of my litle network tried to access the site it works fine. (used my 3g phone.)

So, to wrap things up, i'd like to be able to type www.myname.com into my browser and get my web directory, not my router config. And yes, port forwarding is properly configured.

    Many, Many thanks.
    Tom.

In many ISP's systems the IP changes only when you log Off and bcak On.

Since you did not log Off for long Time your IP stayed the same.

It seems that your Zone Edit data base is not updating itself with the new IP.

I gave up Zoned it long time a go (too Quirky). There are other Free services that Update faster and easier. no-ip.com, myip.us, and few more.

Right, this is a fairly simple one, i have the exact same thing myself. Although its more vital for me as i have multiple websites running which it serves depending on the header value.

What you need to do is go into C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\ and open the file "hosts" (no extension) with notepad.

You should get the following :
    Code:
    # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
    #
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    #
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    #
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    #
    # For example:
    #
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    type at the bottom:

    192.168.1.100 <TAB> myname.com

where it says <TAB> hit the tab button. That should then mean that any time your computer looks up "*.myname.com" it should go to the server rather than your routers external IP. Save, and the effect should be immediate. if not, try disabling and re-enabling the network connection. Here. have an internal linkage ! http://majorgeeks.com/vb/showthread.php?t=30659

Hope this helps :) and sorry for the multiple posts i can only get 3 paragraphs max into one post for some reason or it wont submit :(
