    Hello,
I started getting winfixer popups and I check out this forum. I did everything that is listed in:

Sticky: READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

    When running the virus scans,

BitDefender Online Scanner found and deleted:
    Trojan.Dropper.Keenval.A

    RAV Antivirus found:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\AntiVirus.exe - Backdoor:Win32/Rbot -> Infected
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\TFTP2124 - Backdoor:Win32/Rbot.dam#2 -> Infected
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\TFTP964 - Backdoor:Win32/Sdbot.dam#2 -> Infected

    Trend Micro Housecall found nothing.

I was still getting the winfixer popups so I then followed the directions to get rid of winfixer by chaslang. When in save mode, VudoFix said that the file paths specified did not exist. When I looked for them, they were not there. I am still getting the popups and I don't know what to do. I created a HJT log file. Would you like me to post it as an attachment?

    Thanks - Kate

If you have completed the READ ME, go ahead and attach your HJT log as an attachment to your post.

I forgot to mention something. The popups are getting worse and the computer suddenly restarts itself when I am using iexplorer.

Your HJT version is WAY out dated, you must first update your version to Hijack This 1.99.1 and relocate it.

Please EXTRACT HijackThis from the ZIP File to a Safer location. Here's how:

    To create a new folder:
Click START > My Computer > Local Disc C: > Program Files
Now, Right Click on an Empty Area and select New > Folder & name it HijackThis and ENTER

    To Extract HijackThis:
Now, Right Click your HijackThis ZIP File and select Extract All > Next > and browse to your newly created HijackThis Folder
    (C:\Program Files\HJT) and click Next.

Now run HJT from there. Please save your HJT Log as a .txt File and attach it via the "Manage Attachments" tool in the Additional Options section when you post.

The reason HJT needs its own safe folder is so that backups will be safely preserved. That way, if a mistake is made in the removal process, the mistakenly deleted entry can be restored.

Please make sure System Restore is OFF and the Viewing of Hidden Files & Folders is Enabled as per the tutorial.

    • You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.
      it should look like this
    • At this point press enter one time.

    • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssttr.dll

    • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
    • Next you will see:
    • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

Download this trial version of Ewido Security Suite

    • Install ewido security suite
    • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
    • The program will have a window come up. One of the buttons on the left is to Update. Click the Update button.and then Start the Update. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    • After it completes the update, click the Scanner button

Now exit Ewido. Now print the below instructions or save them locally because I want you do have no browsers opened and also have no connection to the internet (unplug your cable) while doing the below.

Okay, reboot into safe mode and follow the steps below. (If you have any problems at all trying to get into safe mode to complete these steps, just run them in normal boot mode and make sure you tell me when you come back.)

Open up Ewido and do the following:

    • Click on Scanner
    • Then click Settings
    • Under What to Scan? Select Scan every file
    • Then click OK
    • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will start.
    • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files that are infected. Leave the defaults selections (to Remove and backup) and click OK. To save yourself some time, you can select Perform action with all infections and then click OK. With the option to scan every file, a lot of cookies will be removed.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report

    • Click Save report
    • Save the report to your desktop or anyplace you will be able to find it to upload here.
Reboot into normal mode and reconnect to the internet.

Come back here and post the Ewido Scan Report along with a fresh HJT log.

Please look in Add or Remove Programs for the following and Uninstall them if found:

    Microsoft AntiSpyware

    Ewido

Now scan with HijackThis and Check the Boxes for the following:

Make sure All Browser Windows are Closed when you Click FIX.

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Uninstall BitDefender Online Scanner v8 - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)

    O15 - Trusted Zone: www.travelocity.com

Again, make sure All Browser Windows are Closed when you Click FIX.

    NEXT:
Run CCleaner to clean up cookies and temp files.

Run full scans with Ad-Aware SE & Spybot S&D and have both programs fix what they find.
Note: Remember to get all updates before doing the scans.

After you complete the above, REBOOT scan with HijackThis and attach the new log.

I hate to bother you again, but it looks like I spoke too soon. Remember when I said that my computer would randomly reboot itself. Well . . . it is still doing that and when it restarts it tells me that it has "recovered from a serious error." The incidence of it rebooting does not seem to be related to any particular program of the use of any particular device. Just a minute ago, it did it when no one was even using it. I can say that all this started at the same time that the WinFixer stuff started. Any ideas?

This sounds like a hardware problem, post a current HJT log from normal mode to confirm your still clean.

Your HJT log is clean, do you have Hibernation enabled? Do you have the power settings to where they do not turn the computer and/or hard disk off?

If so, give this a try and if the problem re-ocurrs then I would recommend posting in the Hardware Forum. If needed you will need to come back to this thread for further malware assistance. From the way you describe it, to me it sounds like a hardware issue.
