A few weeks ago, I got the nasty virus of Home Antivirus 2010 (I think) I found the Read and Run post and I think I followed everything to a T. I did not post my logs because after running everything I thought I was clean. Now, I am having issues with installing Microsoft Office Student and Teacher Edition 2003 on the same computer(OS is Windows XP Home) Where do I go from here?

Ok, so this morning I woke up and had an epiphany. eMachines have a System Recovery built in. I don't know much about computers but I found the eMachines user guide and I printed out the 25 pages on system recoveries. I sat down and I spent an hour reading about and then deceided that it didn't look too hard or complicated. I got out my blank disks, as I do not have them from when the machine was purchased (the machine is actually my sister in laws from when she and her son were staying with my family~ hence why I am so adamant about fixing it and not just throwing it out the door as we already have 2 workable machines in the house) as I put the first cd in the slot to start the burning, my system went black, made a whole bunch of noises and then shut off. Now, I can not boot back into Windows and it is telling me to press any key to re-start the machine. I have tried F11 to no avail (it just starts Safemode) and I know that I can purchase a new OS and go from there as I contacted eMachines and they do not have the disks for sale anymore. I really at this point just need to get it back to the way it was when she purchased it or I will be the one buying her a new computer. I have looked at websites regarding the disks but they all seem really shady. Does anyone have an ideas how to either get back into my system or to actually acquire the disks? I don't mind paying the money. It would really save me a headache and probably alot more money.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Are you saying you were trying to make the System Recovery Disks now while the computer is infected???? If so, you would probably be making infected recovery disks that would just reinstall the infection. Recovery Disks need to be made when a PC is first taken out of the box. And in reality, if you don't get a full installation disk for Windows when you get your PC, you should call up the manufacturer and give them a ton of screaming at. Bootable Windows CDs are an absolute requirement due to all the malware problems that exist. Manufacturers who don't ship one with their PCs are being extremely negligent.

Does it boot all the way up in safe mode?

You should get this CD no matter what? You may need it again in the future. As stated above, a bootable copy of the Windows CD is a must have.

You can ask about where to purchase Windows XP CD in the Software Forum. What we need to know here is whether you can even boot in safe mode. If the answer is no, and you have no CD, then there is nothing we can do for you here.
