I think I have malware

My computer has been clean for a few months but I've noticed a couple things off when I'm in Internet Explorer. When typing, the keyboard stopped locking onto the next and no letters were showing up for a little while one time. I tried to highlight something once and it opened my printers folder. And I opened IE and the text was shrunken to "smaller". I suspect that something is up.

I ran HJT but I'm not sure what's what. Can someone please help me? Thanks.

    Please follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Sorry I'm just getting to this now. After I made the post, things were going alright for a while but the last couple of days, it's been really messing with my mouse.

I ran the scans (I did the CounterSpy) and here's what I got.

    Thanks for the help.

Please complete ALL the steps in the READ & RUN ME before posting anything.

You must attach 3 logs when finished.
    - Bitdefender
    - PandaActiveScan
    - HijackThis

Make sure you follow ALL STEPS. Based on your CounterSpy log, you have not even done step 0.

I've had a malware problem before so except for the CounterSpy and Microsoft Malicious, I already had the downloads. I checked the add/remove programs for files that didn't look like they belong and I didn't find any. I see PalTalk listed in the log, but that's something I had uninstalled months ago and it's not on the add/remove list. The only one on the major geeks list that's in there is "Viewpoint Manager".

Where I messed up is that I didn't complete all the steps. I ran the scans but neglected to do the Bitdefender and Panda.

You still must check to make sure you are running the proper versions of the software and that you have the proper updates (definitions/detections) too. You do this my comparing to the links we gave and you must run ALL steps from beginning to end and in the order given. This is very important. Programs update and change all the time.

And yes Viewpoint is an item that indicated that step 0 was not run. Is mysearch in Add/Remove programs?

I think the problem has been solved (the counterspy scan found a bunch of stuff) but I'll post the logs.

I couldn't get bitdefender. I got an error message for it so I skipped that one.

Look in Add/Remove programs and uninstall MySearchBar or MyWay or MyWaySearch etc if found.

Now boot in safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete the below (if found):
    c:\program files\viewpoint <--- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\MySearch <--- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\NPMySrch.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\azebar.xml

Are you having anymore malware problems?

I deleted the stuff. I checked add/remove programs again and neither MySearch nor the others were listed.

After the Counterspy scan, things have been going OK. So far so good.

    Thanks for all the help.

    You're welcome.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:

I've already done that and I already have those anti-spy programs and download the Windows updates. I was spy/malware free for about 5 months until this recent stuff. Is there anything else that can be done and do you guys ever get viruses or spyware?

    Thanks for the help.

But you have to check frequently to make sure you have all the updates for everything too.

No! I never have any problems at all. I repeat....never!

If you observe all of the info (including all the other none software tips) in the How to protect thread, you should be pretty safe. The biggest problem is that most users do not observe the things that they are doing or clicking on close enough.
