    Hi.

Newbie here. I need to do my taxes and am afraid to use my computer. Feeling very stressed.

I had some computer crashes and suspected a virus. I followed the "read and do first" directions a few days ago. I thought my problem was fixed and went about my business. Now I think I was wrong. Dell Support Center keeps trying to install itself (don't know why) but can't find a missing filling. The latest NET framework 3.5 update fails each time it tries to update, and it takes over 1.5 days working on the download before it crashes. I have had other crashes.

Here is my concern - because I thought things were fixed, I am sure that I have made some changes. Should I redo all the test? Or can someone perhaps advise me based on the logs that were recently created.

Please advise. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

    Marla

I forget to mention that my computer is also crashing when I try to use the immunize feature in Spybot - S&D. I have been using this tool for awhile but this problem is new. Attached is the Malawarebytes log and a print screen of the Dell Support Center error message. I have other print screens error messages if you would like them.

    Thanks.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Most crashes are not due to malware. More are due to other problems with software, drivers, memory or other hardware. Your logs are clean so any problems you are having are like to be part of this second non-malware area. And you should post about them in the Software Forum.

Not malware based on your logs. Sounds like you are having problems with Microsoft Update or with Microsoft Installer.

Again this probably not a malware problem. I suggest that you uninstall it. Reboot and after reboot delete all Spybot related folders. Then download the current version and reinstall.

I don't see any print screens of error messages but Dell Support Center errors are not problems for the Malware Forum. Frankly this is the first software that I would have uninstalled from the PC after it arrived.

    Hi Chaslang,

Thank you so much for looking at my logs and providing advice. Your comments were very reassuring. My slow response is because my computer became unusable. I couldn't open up any programs. I gave it to someone to repair and he corrected a problem in the registry. I have been using CCleaner on the registry and perhaps that caused the problem. THANKS AGAIN!!

    You're welcome.

It would good if you could post exactly what was repaired since it could help other people in the future.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
