So, the power light is on and not a thing is happening, the screen is blank. When I try to turn the power off nothing happens, it just sits there taunting me with its little green light. We hooked up my sisters monitor to my computer and it worked just fine, then pluged mine back in.... nada! So its not the computer, right?!?! This has happened before but eventually it came back to life after a while. It usually happens after I try to turn it off the screen goes blank but the light is still on. This last time our power went out I was not able to get an image back. I have unpluged, rebooted, reset, moved things around, begged and pleaded to the computer gods, and nothing has worked.

I have a Hp pavilion 533c from 2002 I think with HP Pavilion mx75 monitor

    Is it just shot?
should I start saving my lunch money to get a new monitor?

    Hi

To just double check its nothing in your PC, did you connect your monitor to your sisters PC? if nada and its still exhibits the same taunting green light then suspect your lunch money is going to be needed.

Yea great advice Halo, one thing that I noticed in your question was the fact that the power went out, with every power outage there is a power surge on either the shut down or the start up, this spike or depression can and indeed does cause numerous electrical headaches, that is why it is important to plug ALL electronic devices into a large enough surge protector. Having said that if your monitor is toast and it happened after a power outage your household insurance may cover it, as well you power company should have to pay for the damage due to their faulty sys, that is the law, but collecting can be a hassle. All the best and hope I possibly saved your "Lunch Money" and welcome to Major Geeks

Just thought I'd let you know: Don't go to your insurance company for every little thing. They will raise your rates and or drop you. Then you're looking for another company. That's a dangerous thing to start doing.
