not sure where to post this, so apologies if it seems a bit random

There are a load of programs on my computer that have been installed over the years, and now we have no memory left (500Mb) so i want to get rid of as much as possible. I have attached a list of the programs installed on the machine, and would like some advice on what to delete, and how. Unfortunatley i'm not sure what some of it is or does, hence why i'm asking before removing (yes, i learnt that lesson the hard way)

also: anybody know how to delete STOPzilla? it was installed before i found MGs then removed really badly (clicked delete not uninstall, so am now left with half the package that refuses to be removed because its not all there)

Finally, can you suggest a way i could modify the partitions on my hdd, so i have more space on the C drive? see other attachment

    Thanks in advance

First off, you can get rid of Microsoft Money 2006. They no longer make the product period.

What may have been a bit more useful is a screenshot of your add/remove programs area. Can you post that?

Basically you know you use Office, iTunes, so what other things do you use on a normal basis? Make a list of that and post that screenshot and lets work the problem together.

Maybe try SpaceSniffer http://www.uderzo.it/main_products/space_sniffer/ and check your C: drive for any large files you may not realize are there.

If all the space seems to be used by legitimate programs you will still get a rough idea of what is taking up the space. And thus which programs if deleted will free up the most space.

You can remove corrupted installations with the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html). Let us know if you need instructions how to use it.

More ram would drastically improve performance.
    500 mb is very low.

    Hi

The screenshot is a little small to read (i could likely work them all out but old eyes and all that) all the text sadly, so try this and I hope you have Ccleaner installed if not the latest version 3.0.xxxx is HERE, run it and click Tools > Uninstall and then Save to Text file at bottom, then attach the text file as per HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

If you boot your PC to Safe Mode, does it work ok? if so likely a fair amount of startups you have could be slowing the PC down, so again in CCleaner click Tools > Startup and then Save to text file and attach that log as per above instructions and we maybe able to narrow down your startup list to save some valuable resources (ram and cpu etc)

I'm reading runningcart's problem as he/she is running out of disk space on the C: drive.
I don't see any obvious culprit in that program list as taking up a huge amount of disk space.

I think runningcart you may want to do a Search for files larger than 25mb on your C: drive to see if there is any file that is unusually large. Or a large one that you could move to another partition.

I think it would be from an Explorer window, start at C:. Hit the Search button and then use *.* for file name and choose a size larger than 25mb. See if what comes up. Maybe you have music or video on your C: drive?

45 files found matching search, some (3) of them are seriously big powerpoints, and quite a few setup files. deleted the powerpoints
no, we have a whole drive for music and video, so thats usually one of the first thing i check, along with photos/pictures

yeah, i agree, but can't persuade mum.
    huh? we have 1GB...:confused

    halo, here you are :)

I would do a disk cleanup in Windows, followed by a disk defrag and a chkdsk.

tell me if you gain any space back from that.

what size is your HD btw?

a rather lame 160gb... but i could put another 10-20 gb onto the c:/ drive if i knew whether it was possible to edit the partitions

i will try a disk clean up in the mean time. last time i tried to defrag it told me there wasn't enough free disk space for the defragger to run properly

yeah start cleaning out that stuff ASAP.

Goto your C:\Windows\Temp folder and dump everything you can as well

disk clean up ran, hardly removed anything (i think ccleaner got there first) nothing in temp folder, not even hidden files O:)
just about to run defrag now :)

I'm fairly sure Auslogics defrag will run fairly will with the limited free space you have on C: http://majorgeeks.com/Auslogics_Disk_Defrag_d5266.html.

Partition Wizard will let you resize your partitions but because of your limited space it would be a bit tricky because I believe free partition software only lets you take space from adjoining partitions. Say you wanted to add 20gb to C: then:

You could expand D: (Music) by 20gb by taking 20GB from E: (Photos).
Then expand C: by 20gb by taking 20gb from D: (Music).

That would give you an extra 20gb on C and leave you with 10gb each on D: and E:. [My own guess would be that since you store most data on D: and E: adding just 10gb to C: may be enough for a while. The other 10gb may be most useful on Photos or Music.

I can give some help with the software if you like. I personally think burning a bootable ISO of Partition Wizard is advisable just in case you have any problems during partitioning it can be used to try to restore the original partitions.

delete all of these from program files then get back to me.
AVG, BONJOUR, BROADUMP, CCLEANER, MALWARE-BYTES ANTI-MALAWARE, SOULSEEK, SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY, STOPZILLA, SUPER ANTISPYWARE, XOFTSPY SE6. THEN DELETE EVERYTHING WITH THE BLUE WRITING. CHANCES ARE THAT MOST OF THESE WILL NOT LET YOU DELETE IN NORMAL WINDOWS MODE, IF THIS IS THE CASE THEN HIT, START, TURN OFF COMPUTER, RESTART AND KEEP TAPPING F8 KEY UNTIL WINDOWS LETS YOU START IN SAFE MODE, SELECT "ADMINISTRATOR OR USER NAME" AND START IN, "SAFE MODE WITHOUT NETWORKING" AND THEN DELETE THE ABOVE AGAIN

how many hard drives do you have in this computer?
are c: d: and e: all the same drive?
or is c: a single drive with only 20gig ?

if they are just one drive partition magic can free up space on one of the other partitions and add that to the c:drive partition using merge
or better yet get a notebook usb drive and move all music to it and then merge that to c:
    $60.00 - 500gig

bonjour is installed as a part of adobe bridge, photoshop AND itunes, so... :confused
also seems a bit pointless uninstalling things if i'm just going to install them again. i'm interested as to where you would go after this
and btw, what if none of it is in blue? ;)

yeah just the one hdd, but with partitions

thanks for the suggesting sach2is Partition Wizard freeware and if so, where can i download from?

or rather now seeeing as i was interrupted last night.

I would either get a eturnal HD passbok or burn the music to dvd's then resize the partitions.
    or
    get another larger hard drive.

@ runningcart: I noticed a Google folder - you don't happen to have Google Earth loaded, do you? If so, GE unchecked is a resource hog.
