    Hey all;

After my flap with the Betterinternet thing I just ended up wiping the HD and starting over. One of the things I re-installed was the free version of Quicktime, and for some reason this latest version won't let me kick it out of the system tray! There is no option for this anywhere! How do I do it manually?

Thanks so much (this place is a haven of sanity),

    edit
    preferences
    quick time preferences
drop down should be on browser plugin
    uncheck the last one

yep, as usual you're correct Robo. I did it a long time ago then said, what the heck, and got rid of QT completely and replaced it with quicktime alternative sooooo much better :)

yeah going to msconfig can do the trick, but sometimes, if you dont do it manually through the program options, it will reset itself....

so, try to find the option in the program before that

You people are great! I found the box to uncheck...just didn't look hard enough. I felt like Arthur Dent looking for the "new motorway bypass" announcement at the planning office ("in the bottom of a filing cabinet in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'beware of the leopard'").

    Thanks again,

Ms Peel. Emma Peel was one of my favourites. I see that you are a HHGTTG fan as well.
Love to know details of your custom laptop so I can drool over it.

My system is old W98SE, P2/400, 288mb Ram (maxed out), IE6, AOL UK V7.0, V90 dialup modem, 30gig hard drive, plenty of room and dream about something up to date

MsPeel.......Where did you find this? Don't you use ME? I completely removed Q'time from my system, but if I try to view video and it is Q'time their icon shows up in my systray also. Gotta do the msconfig, yada, yada.......tired of it. I use ME, if you could expand on where you found this I would be very greatful.

Boc: Boy, that sounds like a pain. I just followed the above instructions for finding the option in the Q'time menus. Now, if I get a systray icon back again next time I play a QT video I will be upset (like you) and back here in a flash!

Bigbaz: I bought this machine from Omega 1 computers in Silverdale, WA last summer with my paycheck from a job in Alaska. It's a "no-name" laptop machine w/ a 15" screen (I'm thinking of calling it the "Screaming Lemur"). Pentium 4, 2.2 GHz, CD-RW, wireless LAN...hm, says "IBM 40 GB" etc. Can you tell I'm not very computer literate? All I know is it works and I like it and I can run Photoshop/MS Publisher/Yahoo messenger/a music cd/etc. all at the same time and not slow down.

The only gaming I do is the occasional attack of Age of Empires, so this thing works fine for me.

I also have a deep-seated resentment for software that won't let you uninstall entirely, or that does things like cling to your system tray! If I wanted a little brother/sister to "get in my room and mess things up" I'd have kids, for crying out loud! End of rant.

    Cheers,

Peel (who loves strong female fictional characters who look good while pasting bad guys)

MsPeel, the only thing your laptop and mine have in common is a 15" screen. Love your specs, one day maybe.

PS you would have loved Lucy Lawless, Xena, Warrior princess. She also kicked some serious butt. Shame she was pregnant when Lord of the Rings was being made. Baz
