Well, my 1911 is off at Remington getting some quality control issues solved. Been reading lots of good things about this Croation import Springfield is selling.

Very tempting. Love the .45 ACP, limited capacity, but, the gun you can carry is worth a lot more than the nice gun you left at home. I think when I get my federal hostage money back, I will get this gun.

The one with the stainless upper is very nice looking. http://defenderarmsllc.com/springfield-armory-xds-45acp-stainless/

Now, if I could just find ammo.... Maybe get a job with homeland security? :-D

Well, it's a European gun not made in Belgium or Germany so it's guaranteed to only go BANG one round in three, but hey, it's shiny!;)

I never thought it that way but that's quite an accurate statement. :-D

The barrel is made from melon.

    Melonite finish maybe?

I have heard that the Croation guns are pretty reliable.

I test any gun before it is allowed to be in carry rotation. ;)

    Googled it out of interest-

BTW Fred I've just finished an electronic target for the gun club 'Air gun' , it's made from solid steel 12mm thick with a 10mm bolt in the middle, the actual bullseye is 20mm diameter. When struck it emits a loud audible tone for 5 seconds using a simple tone generating circuit and mosfet amplifier.

I've made it strong enough to be shot by practically anything short of sniper round even though the rifles that will shoot it will only have between 12-30ftlbs of muzzle energy, so just for air guns and rimfire, could probably handle a pistol round but the switch would probably become damaged after a few rounds.

If your interested I'll post pics, should be complete either tomorrow or this weekend.

    ..

    Mmmmk...:-D

Need to mount the speaker, pcb and tap threads into the top to screw the lid down so I should have it finished tomorrow night for a test fire vid, if it isn't finished tomorrow I just post pics of it's current state.

@ Fred:- Croatian firearms are usually very good quality these days. Many are better than the U.S. firearms, (in general).

    P.S.:- Melonite= V.Good!! ;).

@ Rikky:- Yes, I would be interested in checking out your invention, also. :major

Can you believe my soldering iron of 5 years popped:cry I've ordered a couple of new heating elements for it so should be back in business when they come tomorrow, I'll post pics then:)

O.K so I finished the target and tested it and it works awesome:cool Don't have a video of it working as it's been raining none stop for the last couple of days so just fired one or two shots, also not cleaned up the dodgy welds yet or bolted the speaker in so still needs smartening up.

Its operation is pretty simple, when the bolt on the front is struck the bolt moves backwards and hits a metal plate which triggers two 555 timers one controls the duration of the audio tone, the other is a an oscillator that creates a tone, the little blue device with the brass screw is a 20 turn trimmer pot to adjust duration, on the back are two pots, one turns it on and controls the volume the other controls the frequency of the audio tone, the audio tone is then amplified by a simple class A mosfet amplifier which powers an 8ohm speaker, all powered by a 9.6 volt ni-mh battery I made.

When the circuit is idle is draws 7.5ma, at full volume is pulls just over an amp which equals about 10 watts of audio power.

The only problem is the volume, indoors it's VERY loud, ear splitting loud but outdoors not so much.

My brother has his shotgun license now so we're gonna shoot it with a shotgun see what happens:-D I think it will survive the front plate metal 11mm thick and some kind of hardened steel I used a full cutting blade to slice through it.

The power it can absorb is totally decided by the spring, stiffer spring better energy absorbtion, I have a 4lb spring it it now to absorb the energy of 12-50 flb airguns and rimfire.

If you think any of your gun friends are interested fred feel free to copy and past the images or link to the album.

I've just stripped it down to show all the parts:-D I'll make a vid tomorrow if it's not raining , don't expect me to be in it though...

    As a professional model, I understand. :-D:-D:-D

Honestly, I am wondering what it does. If you built it, I am sure it is cool.

You shoot it, it makes a noise:-D

At the range the owner had made a couple himself that played music when you shoot through a hole, the problem with them was they were triggered by a small microphone so sometimes you would miss the small target and hit the outer box and it would sound off defeating the purpose.

Adjusting the sensitivity of the microphone to get it just right proved too hard.

Really it's just a prototype of the trigger mechanism, to test it's functionality and durability you could use it to trigger anything, music, lights ,lasers, smoke effect, whatever...

Yep, you used a percussion switch to a buzzer circuit with a variable tone gen., (which sounds more like Rikky, after he's eaten to much Vindaloo curry to me). roflmao
Much easier than audio triggers, lasers,or other complicated methods.

    Not rocket science is it:-D

I will probably be putting a buck boost type amplifier to double the output voltage to the speaker or something in there though to increase volume, dunno. I'll probably donate it to the club so don't want to invest much more time or money into it.

Prolly cost less than £15 in components, about £5000 in time:-D

Sounds like it's been Geektastically over thought. I'd have gone with plate, hinge, and impact completes circuit.

Personally I would be worried about rick o'shay and all his friends, but I am sure with the correct safety precautions (I.E. a whole bunch of sandbags around the outside of it) it will be OK.

    Rick o'shay:-D Very clever!

They land within 12 inches of the front of the target, they turn into flat shiny 5p coins.

If Game of thrones wasn't on in 15 mins I'd go out and shoot it and post a vid, tough balancing these all this geektivity.

OK, as long as you have checked then that is all good.
