I press Delete etc but nothing happens.....I cannot get into the Bios to change the Boot Order.

Any Suggestions, please....I am SOL as I can't do any work...

    Thank you

hmm, could be some hardware problem, i had a stick of defecto ram and if I installed it my computer would hang on the boot screen. Try booting with some hardwares removed to close in on the main cause.

A bit more information will help.. why do you want to reinstall, was there a problem at first if so what was it, have you had the side panel off.. A loose connection will sometimes do this so check all wired connections to HD's and Roms and post back.

    Note Leoleoiii, and Toke's suggestions.

If you have more than one stick of ram, remove the second stick, and try, or, change over, but only one stick at a time.If you have a spare stick of ram- try it instead to eliminate RAM as the source of the problem .

If you cannot get into the bios, then turn off PC and unplug, then pop out the Bios Battery for say 10mins then pop back in this should reset the Bios to default.

    Thank you for your input.

I unplugged everything, took out the battery, placed the jumper cable from 2/3 to 1/2 for 30 seconds.......then I moved the jumper cable back and put the battery back in and Voila......Nothing.

I starts to boot. I see the Graphics info then the ASUS P5B screen and that is as far a it goes.

So now we know it is not the Batter/Jumper fix.....any thoughts?

Do get any bleeps from the machine as you start up ? if so, listen carefully , and tell us what they are.
Did you have anything else in the PCI slots, when you tested with one stick of ram ? Graphics card ?, or, have you got on board video. If you have a graphics card , try substituting it.

I am getting 1 beep with one of the Ram Sticks and no beeps with the other. I have an Nvidia 7600 GT 256mb which seems to be OK.

I have narrowed down to one of the RAM sticks will not get the computer up at all......the other stick gets the computer to show the Video Card screen and then the ASUS P5B screen and stops dead right there.

No Disk, Windows Installation Disk...nothing works. I have even tried the Windows XP Installation disk from the computer that I just did a reinstall to see if I can get any farther ahead.....nothing.

I have taken out the Bios Battery and moved the jumper to posisiton 2/3 then back to 1/2 and 5 minutes later put the Battery back in and no changes.

So I cannot get past the Motherboard Commercial screen to the Bios, or to Windows or to the Bootup Installation Disk (and yes these are all from Microsoft).

Now, I am at a loss (in more ways than one) as the computer that I had the problems with is flying and I only put minimal software in without the Registry goodies and Utilities......but my desktop on the other side of the room (exact same build from AVA Direct) is running but not running so I can make it do anything.

    Any Thoughts?

    Thank you

try to switch hardwares between each computer, heck it could even be the motherboard itself!

Pleased to see other input, and on same lines-elimination.
The single beep with that memory stick passess the first tests
    Next check----Swap video cards.

    Swap video card?

I am not sure why but I will do it......This would be crazy if 1 out of 2 RAM sticks and a Video card would be defective.....

    Do I change RAM also....

I hate to do this as the Computer #2 is purring along better than the day it came in February.

    Thank you

You can just swap them back after your tests.
All we are saying is a temporary change- if the other video card works in the other computer, then you know it should work in the one that is freezing at the logo screen- if it does- RMA other graphics card, and put the other one back in the 'good' machine.
You have found that one stick of ram appears to have a fault, and you do get the single beep on the other stick.
As long as you take the normal antistatic precautions, changing over will take a few minutes, and testing time will depend on how things go, but putting back in the other machine, will again, only take minutes.
If changing ram, and video card from good mschine gets this second machine up and running, then you will effectively have eliminated the possibility of a faulty motherboard, too.

Well, it has been 24 hours and the computer is screaming along.

I am sure that a diversity of opinions and input have led me to the "fixing"....and if I fried the Motherboard...OK...it wasn't working anyway.....and I could have gone to Best Buy and bought an HP while building a real computer.

At least now, I am online, in business.....and answering clients questions and orders.....and I am VERY thankful for that.

    Thank you all.

We are pleased you are back up and running.
Just moving the ram, could have solved it. It could simply have been a poorly seated ram/video card, or, a lead.
It is always helpful to others in the same position as you were, if you let us know what were the last things you did before it was working again.

    Hi everybody,

First of all thank you very much for your help and input.

Right now the machines are running as good as when I received them from AVA Direct. The only thing that has change, hardware wise, is that the Network adapter that I purchased upon receiving the machine was a Netgear PCI wireless adapter that never was right from the start.

Now I have put in the USB and it is perfect. So on both computers (exact same builds bought at the same time) I did a reinstall of Windows XP Pro and reinstalled the programs that I used. Left off the programs that you pick up along the way. I think another major problem was that I tried TOO MANY e-mail clients looking for something to replace Outlook which still gives me problems, too many Firewall/AV/Malware rpograms looking for the perfect combination.

I only put back in NOD32 and Ad-aware and I am using Windows firewall and defender.

I think Baklogic is correct that reseting the Ram sticks in so they clicked made the biggest difference in being able to boot up the one machine.

The bottom line is that if you have a great build with good retail parts of the finest quality...don't screw it up with too much software that is incompatible....no one needs to try 5 e-mail clients or 5 firewalls...they tend to stick around after the uninstall and clog up the works.

    Thank you

    Elliot
